Title: Al Jardine interview
Post by: southbay on October 05, 2010, 01:21:26 PM
Just got the latest ESQ and enjoyed it as usual.  One small gripe though---in the Jardine interview he states that Carl added his vocal to the Bridge of DFTS in 1998.  Although I certainly defer to those who were actually present, this date is highly unlikely as Carl passed on Feb 6 of 1998.  AGD, any insight???

Wouldn't that be 1988? Typo?

I'd definitely say that Carl's vocal is from 1988 and that it's a typo in the magazine. sh*t, I also think Brian's vocal is from 1988 too!

Maybe Dave Beard can answer whether it is a typo, but based on Al's timeline and explanation I doubt it.  Al stated that Carl and Bruce added vocals to the chorus in 1978, the the song sat for a decade until Brian added his vocal in 1988, then it sat for another decade until Carl added the bridge in 1998. Likely could have been 1996 or 1997, but I don't see any mention of these sessions on the Bellagio site.  Could have overlooked it, though...
