Title: Is this REALLY Mike on Facebook:
Post by: The Shift on September 10, 2010, 12:40:41 AM
Posted about three hours ago:

Mike Love ‎"I'm really hoping to get together musically and start doing some work in the studio this fall with Brian. We haven't discussed new music as of yet, but we've talked about possibly recording some favorite songs,".

Not sure whether the posts really come from Mike -  in fact, this looks more like a quote lifted from elsewhere. But the phrase "we've talked about possibly recording some favorite songs" is a statement that they've had that conversation (whereas the earlier phrase "'m really hoping to get together musically and start doing some work in the studio" is nothing more than an expression of hope).

Is this one of the old quotes that did the rounds a few weeks back, that he subsequently retracted on Brian's website? Or is it a genuine fresh statement from Mike that reignites the story's flames?

And isn't that the trouble? We can no any longer trust a word that's attributed to Mike when it relates to he and Brian getting back together.

Found more, in the Press Enterprise's website (which implies a Mike/Brian reuinion, not a Beach Boys reunion). We need to know what Al's take on it is today too I guess!

By JACLYN MOE
Special to The Press-Enterprise
It is time to bid farewell to summer and what better way to do so than to be serenaded with celebrated summer-loving songs by the Beach Boys themselves?

Ticketholders of the sold-out concert this Saturday at The Show at Aqua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage will be able to do just that.

The Beach Boys are known for tunes such as "Surfin' USA," "California Girls," and "Good Vibrations." Selling hundreds of millions of albums since the 1960s, the band is arguably one of the most influential pop groups in the world.

Today, lead singer and founding member, Mike Love tours endlessly with longtime Beach Boys' member Bruce Johnston, along with musicians Mike Kowalski, Randell Kirsch, Chris Farmer, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill, and Scott Totten.

"We feel very fortunate to still be playing sold out concerts. It has always been my opinion that the people who come to see you are coming to hear songs they know, so in concert we like to play all the hits so that we never disappoint," Love said.

The Beach Boys' music is often used for television commercials and movie soundtracks, as well as regularly being played on oldies radio stations. Their songs receive continuous exposure and new fans.

"Our concerts range from all generations, grandparents to parents to young children. Entire families are coming out to watch and sing along with The Beach Boys," Love said.

Fans would be thrilled to know that the future of The Beach Boys looks just as strong as their past and present. As their 50th anniversary since their band was formed approaches, Love shares that he and his cousin and original band mate, Brian Wilson, have been discussing working on a project to recognize this milestone.

"I'm really hoping to get together musically and start doing some work in the studio this fall with Brian. We haven't discussed new music as of yet, but we've talked about possibly recording some favorite songs," Love said.

Aside from a recording reunion, there are numerous other plans in the Beach Boys' forecast.

"There's been some talk of other musicians doing a tribute album with Beach Boys songs. I think it would be really cool to work with musicians across the spectrum, rap, and R&B, country, and so on,"Love said, " I think that could be interesting to hear such versions of our songs."

That quote is lifted word-for-word from an interview a few months back.

No, it's not Mike actually posting on his FB page, any more than its Brian on his, Alan on his or, indeed, me on mine (naturally, I have people to do this kind of thing for me).

Let's see if this goes anywhere.

But if it does, I hope this statement doesn't imply Mike & Brian making new recordings of Beach Boys classics. What would be the point other than earning a quick buck? Do original stuff instead of more covers! Or at least go for covers with the kind of honest, artistic merit I think BWRG radiates. With Mike on board I have my fears... Original material, preferably with Bruce and Al on board, would be a great way to celebrate the 50 big ones though.

Realised it wasn't Mike  when found out the quote was lifted from the news story I subsequently posted -  and thanks AGD for your comments - however, is someone maintaining that Facebook page on Mike's behalf or is it an entirely disassociated fanboy's effort?

Kwan_dk -  don't forget to include David Marks in any potential reunion line-up!

I glance at a lot of the news stories that a BB related, but always stop when I get to a statement such as this from the quoted story...

...'Today, lead singer and founding member, Mike Love tours endlessly with longtime Beach Boys' member Bruce Johnston, along with musicians Mike Kowalski, Randell Kirsch, Chris Farmer, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill, and Scott Totten.'....

Sloppy! So casts doubt in anything else the writer may have to say.

Hey Guys!  I've gotta say I found you while doing a google search on Mike.  First off let me tell you I take personal offense to this posting.  I personally know the writer of the article and her words were taken from the press release from Mike's staff and from Mike's words from his own mouth.  This article was not "word for word" from another article as stated in this post,  it was from Mike's mouth,( the band members names that were reported were from a press release).  Mike was and is so awesome!!! what a great guy!   His words about getting together with Brian were from his own mouth!!  I heard part of the tape after begging profusely :)   Chill out people with all of your nay say speculations ....he said in his own words... , "I'm really hoping to get together musically and start doing some work in the studio this fall with Brian. We haven't discussed new music as of yet, but we've talked about possibly recording some favorite songs," Love said.      woohoo I actually heard him say it !!  so sit back, relax and wait to see what the next few months bring for Mike and Brian and their 50th!!   We are  :-D.

Chill there cowboy. I lurked numerous BB forums and I can assure you this is not the most Pro-Mike board, but they definately give ol' chodeface his due. Mike Love is a jerkoff, but he's a loveable jerkoff. Like yeah, f*** Mike Love and all that jazz, but dude isn't the bad guy, and the folk here know that for the most part.

I take personal offense at people who can't understand that the tape they say they heard was the source for the article that was posted on the web (www.inlandsocal.com (http://www.inlandsocal.com/iguide/music/content/news/stories/PE_News_Local_D_beachboys10.e6b422.html)) the day before the post on Mike's FB page. Mike has been saying basically the same thing, often in only very slightly different words, for some weeks now.

Many thanks for that verification friend, much appreciated.

Please keep in that this is probably the most cynical – and genuinely devoted – BBs board of them all; we like to pick holes in everything until we're satisfied that, well, we're satisfied it's full of holes.

And with that in mind, it's worth looking at the Lovester's quote you refer to in more detail:

I heard part of the tape after begging profusely ... he said in his own words: "I'm really hoping to get together musically and start doing some work in the studio this fall with Brian. We haven't discussed new music as of yet[/b], but we've talked about possibly recording some favorite songs," Love said.

Words like "hoping" and "possibly" haven't resulted in a lot of product in the past. That, and given the retraction on Wilson's own website, breed pessimism and cynicism here.

Still, hopefully it's possible.
