If there is a release of srchive material, let's hope it is just that and not yet another variation on a hits package or remixes.  The last one was a step too far even for me.

I would not think so. It's a hard guess anyway. No extended SMiLE only, I'm afraid. Brian would be against. My shot: a remastered version of the 1993 box set, with added rare material (which could include SMiLE stuff).

Give me piano demos, studio outtakes, non-album singles, and just-plain-unreleased material from 1967-78. That's all I want, Capitol! It could even be a measly two discs, you know, I'd accept that. _{Even though it should be a box set unto itself, jerks.}

As for the non-album singles, you can get them all (Capitol) now, except for a couple b-sides and they can be had with the purchase of footwear. Greatest Hits Vols 1 and 2, along with US Singles Box, will have you just about covered. I'm all for an outakes and finished songs in the can, but never released, release.

A Live Boxset with L'ed in Hawaii, the 90's unplugged performances and of course tons of stuff from the 69-74 "golden era", first and second Flame albums with outtakes, Dennis and Rumbo's Hubba Hubba, Paley Sessions, Smile Sessions Boxset and another "Endless Harmony style" comp that is sparse on the stereo remixes would do me. Capitol my wallet's open..........

I was just thinking about a remastered and expanded box set for the 50th anniversary.    A LOT was left off last time and the catalogue has been upgraded soundwise since that release.  Along with that, a release of the box set live tour/unplugged material.  I would be in favor of adding Somewhere near Japan and Soul Searchin to a new box.

And another release should be a Hawthorne II type comp.

One could even have a Love You box.  No kidding.   There is a LOT of demo, alt versions, takes from those sessions, as well as songs recorded around that time...for example, Its Over Now.  I might just make this box myself (for my mp3 only, you understand  :-X )...given the slim chance any such thing would ever happen.....

Not just a Love You box set. No, we need more than that. We need an action figure. 70s Brian in front of a moog. Each arm has a button that makes his hand smash a key on the moog. Every couple of times you hit the button, Brian says, "hey guys, how'dya like the bassline for my new song?" We could always use Love You key chain. How about some rugs made using the pattern from the album cover? Coffee mugs? Maybe a beanie? Maybe even drug paraphernalia? Remember those singing trout plaques? How about one with 70s Brian? You walk in front of it and he starts singing "Shortenin' Bread".

What do you think?

In addition to what I've said before, I'd also like proper mono mixes -- as God Brian intended -- for their pre-Today! albums. I bet "We'll Run Away" sounds great in mono!

Ahhh, I'd LOVE to hear Surfer Girl in mono. Wouldn't mind some session takes from Today, Summer Days, and Surfer Girl. Also I'd love to hear the demos from Sunflower and Friends.

I'm trying to imagine animatronic 70's Brian Wilson's head attached to a board singing Shortenin' Bread. It's not a pretty image.

Based on what I'm reading just in this thread alone, I think we need a "Capitol Box" ala Beatles.  You know, all the 60s albums in mono and stereo in mini Lp covers.  Of course, the stereo for Today through Wild Honey would have to be recreated, but hey, we're halfway there now!  And of course there would have to be dedicated mono mixes for Friends and 20/20.  Would this not make everybody happy one way or another?

Oh, and one more thing....a SMiLE box.  C'mon, Brian!  Just say YES!

Agree and disagree. I like the idea of a boxset for mono stereo albums, but if they did this I also wish they would sell the mono individually (The Beatles remastered mono albums can ONLY be found in the boxset - I only want Sgt. Pepper and Rubber Soul in mono and I'm not paying $140+ to get two albums). I own many Beach Boys albums in mono already and I don't want to shell out $---.-- for several albums I already own. But the mini-lps will cater to many fans (probably even me) and if they spruce up the boxset with some quality photos and a nice booklet, (maybe even a DVD of an extended edition 'Endless Harmony'), I think I'd have to give in!

Okay, a reissue of all the Beach Boys in mono and stereo (sold individually and in boxset), plus boxsets for Love You, Friends, Sunflower, Today, Summer Days, Surfer Girl, anything else?....we're getting greedy, eh?  ;D

I would like some sort of emulator. It only needs a few settings: a 'Love You' one, a 'Pet Sounds' one, and a 'SIP' one.

Imagine: there is the 'in'-port. You feed in any album that you like, e.g. 'Wild Honey'. The 'out'-port connects to your amp. Press the 'on' button of your CD machine, and hey: the meagre, underproduced mono sound of WH is magically transformed into a dynamic hurricane of burping and farting '70 synths, with Brian and the Boys doing WH in the style of the last magnificent hurrah.

3 settings, one knob, two ports, that's all I need, really. No silly 20-CD SMiLE boxes that no one plays in their entirety ever. No quad mixes of Country Love, meh. No wallet-robbing 500-singles collections with one new remix of Kokomo. Please no. God?

I once read that The Beach Boys have around 300 unreleased songs in the vaults, mostly from Sunflower on. There aren't many unreleased songs from the '60s Capitol period, with the notable exception of SMiLE, of course. Anyway, if that is true, we could get at least one archival CD rlease per year, instead of the umpteenth hits package. I'm still undecided on The Warmth of the Sun, being as I prefer mono.

I heard Tones for the first time today. I'm amazed it's never has an offical release, it's pretty good. Could have easily fit onto Smile. Also from a historical perspective it's the first thing Carl wrote that wasn't a surf guitar instrumental.

Hi everyone - This is my first post, so hopefully I am doing it right. And I'm joining this thread awfully late. But I saw mention of my Maclean's piece so I thought I would drop in and say hello. Yes, I am currently writing a book - working title 50 Sides of The Beach Boys - for release next year, coinciding with the big birthday. In it I am looking at 50 songs that span the group's career - solo stuff included - and then telling the story of those songs each through the perspective of somebody different, including surviving band members, collaborators, contemporaries of The Beach Boys, and modern artists influenced by them. I have done 80% of interviews and a fair bit of the writing. Still some work to be done. Hopefully it will add a new spin to the story!
