Title: I Want A Brother Records T-Shirt....Bad.
Post by: Menace Wilson on August 17, 2010, 12:30:50 PM
I'm talkin' with the indian (Native American) brave (young man) on horseback logo.  I've googled around and can't find one anywhere.

Anybody know of a company that makes em?

Iron-on t-shirt designs have vastly improved in the past few years.

I've always wanted one of those. Problem is, nobody wants to make one because the logo and Beach Boys name are copyrighted. I've wanted Mr. Larson to help me out with one of those, but his hands are tied. He doesn't feel like being on the other end of a lawsuit from BRI.

Closest I have to one is a t-shirt that I bought at a 1974 Beach Boys concert with the name and logo (horse&indian) printed on the front. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit me anymore...........too many beers.

A flat scanner and a printer that can output iron-ons would be perfect for home made t-shirts.

I might have to go the homemade route.  All I know is that Mikie's avatar mocks me with its badassness.

BIG QUESTION: Does anyone have a good/decent size file of the Brothers logo. It would be appreciated. Much appreciated.

Hahaha, this is almost as good as the Justin Bieber parody, which it doesn't quite beat out because... well, Justin Bieber is even less "punk rock" than the Beach Boys.

The four black bars are the logo for the band Black Flag, a hardcore punk rock band. As someone above mentioned, it is a parody by putting that logo with the name of the Beach Boys. It's obviously a joke.

Speaking of that Brother's Record logo and such... don't you think it really fit Brian's idea of "The Beach" instead of "The Beach Boys"???

To me it sounds like Brian was seriously trying to find a way out of being "The Beach Boys" now that they were Beach Men and he either got shot down or just gave up.

Personally "The Beach" doesn't resonate with me well. It's too ambiguous. A beach playing that music? How can sand play keyboard?

Nice. The shirt I mean. I didn't know about the BF link. I found it aesthetically pleasing when I saw it first. I want one! And Henry Rollins I never liked anyway.

I wonder why the band/organization has had such limited, and sometimes poorly rendered merchandise in recent years.   You can get a decent hat with the coke logo but that seems to be about it...unless you want some generic hot rod cartoon of a t shirt.

They should at least have some decent stickers such as end of the trail or the coke logo.  I'd pay a bit for a nice license plate with one of these logos for my antique chevy.

The Grateful Dead organization has some great merchandise out there .  I found a very nice round sticker of the American Beauty cover....multicolored, about 5 inches in diameter, which I promptly put on the back window of my old minivan.    I'd take it off and replace it if the BBs sold something decent and similarly cool.

Yeah, but does it have "The Beach Boys" scribed underneath the logo??  That separates the men from the boys.  The elite from the also-rans in Beach Boys shirtdom.....

John Porteous of famed Newcastle record shop Pet Sounds used to do just these items. The logo was quite small-ish, and placed where a breast pocket would be, white on black. Looked like it might have been an official Brother records t-shirt. I still have mine 15+ years on, though it's rather threadbare (and too small) these days.

I don't know whether they still make 'em, and their website's been offline for awhile, but you can probably find an email address or phone no on the web.

I have the same shirt as the maroon one above, except it's light blue (like the '72 shirt). I was wearing it when I had my picture taken with Brian in front of a limo. He stared at it for a few seconds and seemed to like it.

I'd really like someone to replicate either of the shirts above.  I'd even wear it to work.

:lol yes it did. One of the funniest stories about alcohol-free beer ever. Bavaria eventually took over bigtime because the U.S. soldiers in the first Gulf War loved it so much, and mr. Youp was absent then (or he was threatened with a lawsuit...).

As someone pointed out, the Brother logo would be registered and so possibly any talk of a talented poster possibly doing a drawing large enough that one could take into a store to get printed on to a T-shirt would be frowned upon on this board and should cease I guess.

Off topic, but I really like the statue of 'Appeal to the Great Spirit' by Cyrus Dallin. Would there be a talented poster who possibly could do a drawing large enough that one could take into a store to get printed on to a T-shirt?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1e/5047_mfa_dallin_appeal_spirit-esmall.jpg

Heres a good deal for $42 for any other art aficonado.

I was at "Thrift Town" in Vallejo, CA about 10 years ago, looking through the usual run-of-the-mill, mediocre t-shirts, when suddenly, like an apparition, a lightly tie-dyed, orange t-shirt with this logo, dated '74, in perfect condition, appeared before my eyes like an incongruous, holy vision. I examined it and was delighted to see that it was XL (pretty uncommon for '70s shirts). Slightly smaller than modern XLs but I could wear it and still can (it's getting VERY tight though). 99 cents!!! My best thrift store find ever.

Had to dig back to find this thread, after coming across this on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-early-1970s-Beach-Boys-T-Shirt-XL-/110594717777?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19bff57851
I always, (o.k., sometimes), hate tooting my own horn, but this was the original logo.  I remember first seeing it, and wondering why in the hell they would use The End of the Trail...  When I finally couldn't take it, and brought it to Dennis' attention, he blew his stack!  That's when they adopted 'Appeal to the Great Spirit'...

A little t-shirt anecdote from me:

I was proudly wearing my silk screened Frank Holmes SMiLE t-shirt for the CSN concert in Rome this summer and got a bit of feedback from the Italians. Seated in the front row, I caught Crosby's attention during an applause, and actually lowered my hands and stopped clapping because I wanted him to see my SMiLE t-shirt. He smiled at me, but I don't know if it was an overbearing "what a jerk" smile or an appreciative, friendly smile. Crosby likes Brian Wilson, but everyone was applauding except lil ol me in my Frank Holmes SMiLE t-shirt!

I've also got :
the Surf's Up T-shirt
the "Wanted - Brian Wilson - For failing to surf" T-shirt
Brian Wilson face T-shirt (Still I dream of it)

 I say:
Everyone hound GLarson to make the shirts.  At least I think thats the guy that used to make some really cool "aftermarket" shirts. Not that I want to get him chased by the BRI Goons, or anything, but if there's still a chance his friends have a set-up...

A few years ago, I picked up a John Fogerty DVD called "The Long Road Home - In Concert". It's excellent. Anyway, the video camera focused on the audience for a few seconds and there was a big guy a few rows from the front who stuck out in the crowd with a BWPS shirt on. His shirt had the "SMiLE" logo on the front. I believe it was this one:

http://www.buy.com/prod/brian-wilson-sun-t-shirt-2xl/q/sellerid/25563558/loc/64935/215642609.html

I thought that was cool. I'm sure Fogerty saw it and approved.

I'd take one too, please.

Can you believe that they changed the writing to this:

Sure, it has some charm but the older writing has more class.

My point proven...

Members on this board has been asking for Brother T-shirts since ages...  earlier in this thread some mentioned that Glarson
wouldn't make any...

So I check with my guy and he's open helping out. I make a post, 2 minutes later someone suggest that I should be banned!

People has been asking for this file for a long while... so of course I make it available...
6 people downloaded it in five minutes without saying a word...
Later when it was unavailable 4 comments about it not being there...

The world is one happy place where we share among each other?

Sorry we don't check 24/7 on the off chance a post may be deleted. Wheres the post saying you should be banned!

I never saw the Brother Logo mentioned but I did mention earlier in this thread there may be a legal issue.

Now could we try again?

I want a 'Appeal to the Great Spirit' T-Shirt....Bad.

The link in my previous post works
It contains a vectorized Appeal to the great spirit Beach Boys logo in a format that
any handy t-shirt company can work with. Just make sure you tell them you want the print to be black.

Questions? If you download, please show your appreciating by a post!

@jonas Finally, just enjoy!

Ok, here's a quick walkthrough

click on the link http://www.mediafire.com/?qmk43puygfj85sb (http://www.mediafire.com/?qmk43puygfj85sb)
This is a free upload site, so beware of all the commercials! Click on the box saying "click here to start download".
The filename is brotherrecs.eps

Most of you probably can't open the file on your computers. It's an eps file used specifically used in graphic production and
the curves in the file will tell the digital cutter machine how to create your tee!

As always, don't hesitate to ask, if download doesn't work for you, let me know and I'll e-mail you the file.

Pfff... I don't have a clue what the rights are regarding this logo. Discussing it here is never a problem. As for the dl-link: my suggestion would be that IF we get comment on this te remove it (based on copyrights etc), we will (have to).

Thank's, glad you could open it!

Brother Records, INC holds the copyright to the man on horse in combination with the text "The Beach Boys" as a trademark.
First registrered in obctober 1975, renewed in 2008 and specifically mentions clothing!

'Preview' on a macbook. Also, I just read you can open an .eps file in adobe acrobat (which, as I recall, is a free program).

I've downloaded the file multiple times, but IrfanView, with the correct plugin installed says the eps file is invalid.

Photoshop opened it for me. Now what the hell do I do with it? Put the file on a CD and take it to a T-shirt shop and they'll know what to do with it? How large will they print the artwork to the T-shirt; the default size or whatever you want it to be? The artwork has a lot of small gray squares on it covering the logo.

Sorry to be naive with this - I'm not an artsy fartsy guy.  ::)

Mikie,

is it a checkered field with grey squares?
If so, that's just photoshops way of telling that there is no background.

Post by: Mikie on October 17, 2010, 09:39:47 AM
Yeah, checkered field with grey squares.  OK, cool, so just take the file down to the T-shirt shop then, and they'll know what's up?

Thanks a lot, Reg!   Say hello to Murry for me, would ya?  ;D

Got it at last. Cool!

Thanks again.

Anyone know if a T-Shirt printer can alter the logo. I'm thinking increase the indian size and shrink the writing. Also may get just the logo printed on another shirt minus the writing.

Any tips?

Altering the logo can be done, but requires some skills and software. They might be able to do that for you, but I'd guess they will charge you extra!

I can alter it for you for free if you want. I was thinking about doing the same thing anyways. I have adobe photoshop and should be able to alter it to the desired specifications.

Ok! PM me with your email address/requests, and I'll email you the files when I get them made.....I just made one with the bigger Brother logo in under 2 minutes so multiple design requests won't be a problem.

Be careful if you edit it in photoshop!!
Its a vectorized file!!! You might end up with rough edges, and a file that the printer cant work with!!!!!!
Adobe Illustrator is the program to choose!!!

haha yes. I figured it would be easier in photoshop but due to the pixelation I ended up using illustrator.

Hi again BRI.

Once again its great you read our posts, so just thought you should know I now have 2 black T-shirts each with a small record company logo on the breast pocket and a larger picture with the name of some band you may have interests in on the back in a classic flowing style print. All print is white.

Unless I hear otherwise, I'll assume its cool to promote this band and its record label by wearing the above T-shirts. I'm to dumb to organise a print run and sell to others so don't worry on that score!

Hope your plans for the 50th are going well, and once again, keep an eye on Stamos and his musical for us.

Regards

TheOther Annonymous.

Slightly o/t but I have this old BB shirt that I will never again fit in. It's pretty old and beat up, with a sort of wide neck, and it has been converted from large to XS, roughly a ladies small. Question is, when is it from? I haven't ever seen one like this. I'm guessing early 70'a. Anyone?  (http://harlykwin714.smugmug.com/Other/2010/DSC0167/1117227978_VtxxP-M.jpg)
