Title: BW Reimagines Gershwin review thread Post by: buddhahat on July 26, 2010, 03:21:11 AM Don't know if this has been started elsewhere, but thought it'd be good to compile all the reviews of the album in one place.
Just received my copy of Mojo, and unfortunately it is a somewhat disappointing review. They rate it 3 stars. Here is a snippet: "While the pairing seems perfect, the results are rather less. Wilson's opening Stack O Vocals take on Rhapsody In Blue offers hope, but the album gradually fades, bought down by mawkish arrangements and a couple of ill-conceived song choices." Reviewer Bob Mehr, considers the "BB style makeover" of I Got Rhythm and a swooning I Loves You Porgy as bright spots on the album but believes the album "falls short of either artist's legacy". Sorry to be the bearer of such glum tidings. I have yet to hear the album so cannot comment on whether this is a fair review or not. I'm not the biggest fan of The Like In I Love You, and I felt concerned that if they deem that song strong enough to advertise the album, that maybe the other songs are not going do much for me. However the segment of Rhapsody and another snippet on the promo clip, plus some of the glowing reviews here, have definitely piqued my interest. I do hope there are some more positive reviews to come. Title: Re: BW Reimagines Gershwin review thread Post by: Andrew G. Looks to me like they were expecting a full album of Gershwin a la Beach Boys. Big mistake.
