Title: What Is The Meanest Thing You've Heard Mike Love Say During A Concert?
Post by: Beekeeper on July 25, 2010, 07:07:17 PM
I was talking to my daughter's (15) boyfriend's parents the other night.

I found out that his dad Louis was also at the same concert I was at back in 1992. It was at the Circle Star Theater (now gone), in San Carlos (south of San Francisco). I had gotten into the Beach Boys after I graduated in 1989 from high school. Had read Brians' new autobiography and the Beach Boys music was my new BEST FRIEND. This was my first BB concert, I was 21 at the time.

Anyway, I had mentioned how during the concert Carl was talking to us during a break in the setlist and all of a sudden Mike tells him to shutup. Mike says, "Don't you see that person holding up that bedsheet it says, "409".

So I'm thinking what the heck, that wasnt cool of Mike to interrupt Carl by telling him to shutup.

Louis, (daughter's, boyfriend's dad) thought it was funny cause he all of a sudden remembered something like that too from the concert.

Also, after the concert was over we went out the side door and there was Bruce and the rest of the original Beach Boys heading over to a limo. I asked Bruce, " Where's Brian"??? He responded, " God Only Knows".

It was a great answer and yet at the same time I was kinda pissed a such a lame response. Oh, well.

Ive been too four or five BB concerts and never heard after that Mike being rude.

this isn't really a "mean" comment as much as it is a joke, but at the Coney Island show this past Thursday, when introducing Be True to Your School Mike said, "this is a song we wrote back in 1963. now John (Stamos) is saying that he was born in 1963, and i can verify that because me and his mother used to spend a lot of nights together back then." later in this intro he made another comment, but can't remember what it was exactly - it shocked me and my brother though!

Any time after Carl died: "Hi, we're the Beach Boys"

There was one show in the early 80's, where one of the members said something about how great it is to last 20 or so years in a band and not be a drug addict. Mike's reply was "we can't all be Wilsons". I haven't heard the recording(if there is one), but I read about it on Eric's great concert archive website(which I STILL think needs to be made into a book.  ;D)  The comment itself is bad enough, but the really "mean" and offensive aspect of the comment is that one of the Wilsons(I can't remember which one) was actually on the stage at the time.

I should have been more specific. Mike said, " Hey, SHUTUP!!!", to Carl while Carl was talking to the audience. That was pretty awkward and rude IMO.

I feel honored by your compliments, but lately it's been hard enough to update more than once a year!  Making a book would have to be a collaborative effort, because it's hard to find the time and motivation to do it on my own!  :-D

The meanest thing? Probably that show where he said 'Ok, everybody gets a free copy of my new solo album on the way out!'.
