Come on.... Title: Re: Billboard list Top 30 summer songs Post by: Andrew G. Doe on July 02, 2010, 07:20:21 AM Yeah the Beach Boys are on it a good bit, but not number 1? Come on.... Boy, that list could have been stuffed with BBs material. I guess we're the guys gonna dispute most choices there! :) As is clearly stated in the article for those who choose to read it properly, the list was arrived at not by personal choice but by chart performance - so anyone disputing it is arguing against the official Billboard chart. Can't speak for anyone else, but I don't want to look that stupid. Title: Re: Billboard list Top 30 summer songs Post by: The Shift on July 02, 2010, 07:32:17 AM Ah - I chose not to read it at all! Heh... Still, then you have to define the criteria for "summer song". Somewhere along the line it has to be subjective...

Still, then you have to define the criteria for "summer song". Somewhere along the line it has to be subjective... How about... song with a summery theme ? Which charted in the... summer ? ;D Title: Re: Billboard list Top 30 summer songs Post by: Big Bri on July 02, 2010, 08:55:31 AM How on Earth did they leave out THIS Classic about Summertime:

Bri OK, one more time for them as can't read - the list was decided by chart action, not someone sitting down and going "ooooooooo, like that one, I'll put it at #7 !!!" "These 30 hot tunes with summer-specific themes are ranked based on each track's performance on the Billboard Hot 100 chart from August 4, 1958 -- the inception of the chart -- through the chart dated July 3, 2010. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least. Prior to the Hot 100's implementation in 1991 of enhanced radio and sales information from Nielsen BDS and Nielsen SoundScan, songs had shorter reigns at No. 1 and shorter chart lives. To ensure equitable representation, earlier time frames were each weighted to account for the difference between turnover rates from those decades and the turnover rates that have occurred since the advent of Nielsen Music data." For example, this is how "Surf City" got to be #4: Debuted June 15th 1963 68-20-10-7-2-1-1-3-7-11-15-25-44 I'm assuming they awarded 100 points for #1, 99 for #2 etc., etc, so the song scored 1099 points. Hmmm thought Kokomo would be on it then Wasn't a summer hit - charted September 3rd 1988, hit #1 on November 5th. :) Title: Re: Billboard list Top 30 summer songs Post by: Big Bri on July 02, 2010, 09:50:45 AM LOL That'll work for me AGD!!! Showing my age here but THAT was one HOT summer anthem around 50 years ago. I can still close my eyes on a summer day at the pool or beach and if I listen closely, can still hear that song drifting in the breeze somewhere in the distance....that harmonica and multitracked vocal......hypnotic and wistful......
As someone said, the list was chart position, but I can't believe this didn't sell??!! Title: Re: Billboard list Top 30 summer songs Post by: Awesoman on July 09, 2010, 10:31:56 PM Hey waitaminute...they left off "Good Vibrations"!!!!! *
