I thought it'd be fun to come up with a setlist that the band we put together would play.

Here's my 50 songs... enough hits for the casual fan, but enough treasures for folks like us, and not a marathon concert for the performers or audience.

Not perfect, and the flow in the middle section could be tightened up, but I think it's a good start...

And I'd cut the solo stuff. Not because it's bad, but because -- I dunno. It doesn't seem to fit, to me.

Brian has said "Forever" is too heavy for him to do on stage and he tries to keep it off the setlist, so I'd make a qualified guess that "Wouldn't it Be Nice to Live Again" would be too.

Honestly, as much as I defend Michael and Bruce's group, Bruce doesn't really do a hell of a lot onstage. Occasionally he does a lead vocal and sometimes will play keyboards (I Write the Songs or Disney Girls), but "cheerleader", while certainly good for an LOL, is not TOO TOO far off the mark.

I like this setlist, and would keep the solo stuff on it.  I would add in "River Song" too and drop Ballad of Ol Betsy to keep it to 50 songs.  Nice work Jeff!

I think it would be cool if they sing "God Only Knows" with Carl's vocals as playback and the other vocals live.
The same with "Forever" with Dennis on lead.

I have seen Natalie Cole a couple of times and for "Unforgettable" a screen drops down and they use Nat King Cole's recorded vocals for his part of the duet.  I figure the Beach Boys could do something simialr for "God Only Knows" and "You're So Beautiful" (I would vote for this simply because that is the song Dennis chose to perform).

For the Band I would simply use Brian's band - they do it the best.  I could see adding David Marks but am ambivalent to Blondie and Ricky.  The songs they were part of are not as big parts of the legacy as other songs.  I would also add Matt Jardine and Christian Love since they sound so much like Brian and Carl respectively.  

With that said I would add the following to the set list:

"All This and That"
"Warmth of the Sun"
"Cabinessence" (Just to piss ML off! - oh hell, why not just perform SMiLE?)
"Good Timing"
"California Saga - Big Sur"
"Lady Lynda"

I would take out any of the solo songs except for L&M.

Either one solo song of each member or no solo song... I think that's fair.

The main song on my wishlist is "Wild Honey" -- Matt Jardine lead is fine.

I'm going to "borrow" this thread for a moment, for a related question. Someone told me they saw an ad a few days ago for a Beach Boys reunion show, with Mike, Bruce, Al, and Brian for a one-off date in mid-July of this year. I'm skeptical, but this is from a pretty level-headed person, so I'm asking -- has anyone heard anything like this?? I thought maybe he/she had seen a post about Al's July show, but they said it was an ad for everyone sharing a stage.

Can you imagine Foskett introducing that?

For some reason I can't picture them playing songs like "Long Promised Road" and "Angel Come Home".

A 49th anniversary reunion show ? Well, 'tis The Beach Boys after all...  ;D

One reason why this is very unlikely - The Gershwin Songbook. Also, Mike & Bruce are in Europe June 25th-July 10th, then on tour back home from the 17th. Any details on where this is slated to happen ?

I don't see Ed Carter on your list on band members. He certainly belongs there.

AGD, my friend can't remember the date, other than it was in mid-July and on the East Coast. There's been no mention of this event on fan sites, BBFC hasn't heard of it and the BBBand website doesn't have any such thing listed.

If there really was such an event happening, one would think they'd want us to know in time to buy tickets and arrange travel/lodging. Most shows in the U.S. are promoted a couple of months in advance at the very least. A BB reunion would/should be a big deal.

I don't doubt that my friend saw something he/she thought was notable, and it could just be as simple as promotion or journalistic error, which does happen. But, I'm puzzled.

I don't see anyone wanting Barbara Ann included in the set.  An oversight no doubt.  Right AGD?

Given past history and delays in coming to agreement, isn't a 51st Anniversary show more likely?  :)

i think a 25th anniversary show has the best chance of happening.

I still say it will be nothing more than a GHs album and PR get-together but think about it, Brian has the Gershwin project and Mike and Bruce have a summer of shows to sell this year. Neither would want attention given to any reunion next year.
