Imagine if THIS was the first single from 15 Big Ones...we might not have had to suffer Rock and Roll Music as an encore since 1976. I wouldn't mind seeing Brian dust this one off in concert. Doubtful as long as Foskett is around, but hey. We can dream.

YES! Oh, to be in Atlanta that day to watch the Phillies kick the living sh*t out of the Braves and then have Michael and Bruce rub salt on the open wound...

It's just a fact that Philadelphia fans are the best. We love the Beach Boys up here in the City of Brotherly Love. :)

I went and saw the BB's after a Braves game a few years ago.
Mike Love was not there ,Gerry Beckley was brought in as a lead voice, bad sound, bad performance, bad show!
They were brought out on the back of a truck ,unless your Elvis or Jerry Lee in the fifties ,I dont want to see a show on the back of a truck!
And as far as Atlanta goes,we love the Beach Boys more than Philly!

Except when you throw up on little girls and get tasered.  :)

No one said that we weren't rough & tough, rude and crude. But we still love our Phillies and The Beach Boys.

Let's Go Flyers!

Yes they are the best and we did love the BBs when they came to town-Philly strongly supported the real Beach Bpys and they were always great shows.

You mean the city of brotherly shove. :)
I am a Cowboys fan from Dallas! Some of the rudist fans are from Philly. Not saying you are one of them.

I'll be the first to admit I'm rude. I'm a Beach Boys fan who spends too much time on this forum. It fucks with you after ten minutes...:)

All I can say is that it is fairly safe for a fan to where an Eagles, Giants or Redskins jersey in Dallas. But I have been told it is not safe to where a Cowboys, Giants or Redskins jersey in Philadelphia. Of course I walked around in the Philly area (Trent New Jersey actually)  in a Cowboys sports jacket and no one bothered me. This was around 1997.

Sorry if this has been covered here before, but why would Foskett prevent this one from being played live?

Pretty much the same reason that every Beach Boys album after 1973 hasn't been represented in the setlists for a LONG time....Jeff can't stand the post-Holland stuff. And I'm not even sure he digs the stuff between Pet Sounds and Holland, either.

I don't think that's quite fair, the Brian Wilson band has done the following live:
a medley of "Wonderful" and "Cabinessence"
"Our Prayer"
"Heroes and Villains"
"Darlin" (Foskett says this is one of his favorite songs BW has written)
"I'd Love Just Once to See You"
"Meant for You"
"Friends"
"Busy Doin' Nothing"
"Do It Again"
"Time to Get Alone" (Foskett practically singing the entire song since Brian didn't have the range to cut it himself)"
"This Whole World"
"Add Some Music to Your Day"
"'Til I Die" (opening many shows with a medley of this and "Brian Wilson'")
"Marcella"

How much of a say does Jeff even have on the set list?

Td -- I think you missed to point of the original post.  Foskett doesn't like anything post-Holland, not the so called 'avant garde' material.  Everything you cited is 1973 or earlier.  So "15 Big Ones", "Love You" and beyond are ruled out in his mind.  This has been fairly well established through the last dozen years.  Is it possible you just misconstrued what was said in the original post?

The Real Beach Boy said he thought he didn't think Jeff liked the stuff after Pet Sounds and before Holland which is why Td presented the above list of material from said era that Brian and band have done live.

I wonder if Brian has ever wanted to do stuff from "Love You" live? He has said that it's his favorite BB album several times and it seems like the band could strike up killer arrangements for it.

I've always thought that Brian's band wants to make everything sound like the Wrecking Crew circa 1965, which isn't a bad thing, but it probably says something about some of their preferences. However, if Brian's band does Love You live, I want FAITHFUL arrangements. Like, I want to see the drummer doing nothing but pounding out 1/4 notes on his snare drum for most of "Roller Skating Child", and I want 2 or 3 of the band members clapping maniacally the whole time just like on the record. One of my favorite things to do when I listen to Love You is to imagine what it would look like if someone played percussion/drums exactly like that live. So, when I listen to "I Wanna Pick You Up", I imagine Dennis in the studio behind his drum set, again playing 1/4 notes on his snare drum, followed each time by two little bass kicks, for most of the song. I know, I know, the drums weren't played by an actual person. Or were they???!!!?!

The drums on Love You are real drums.

Td got SOME of my point. Obviously, Brian's band HAS played post-Holland stuff live, namely (and only) Back Home, The Night Was So Young, and Good Timin'. And I'm quite aware of the stuff from 1966-73 that they've done live as well. It's not exactly a secret that Foskett has more say in the setlists than Brian does. Frankly, I believe if Brian selected all the songs in the setlists, judging by what he's mentioned as favorite Beach Boys songs and other non-Beach Boys favorites, we would have a MUCH different setlist. I think if Brian selected the songs, he would be playing Kokomo.

"I thought Kokomo was really great." Brian Wilson in Endless Harmony

I will say this, whenever Brian wants something on the setlist he gets what he wants, notable examples would be: "Let it Shine" and "Monster Mash." Also when Brian wants something off of the setlist, he usually gets what he wants: he's said that both "Forever" and "Warmth of the Sun' give him bad memories on stage and so he tries to keep them off the setlist.

And don't forget, he hates Sail On Sailor.

I'm pretty sure Jeff does dig at least some of "the stuff between Pet Sounds and Holland" -- he was one of the instigators, along with Carl and Al, when the Beach Boys performed "This Whole World" in 1988.
