Title: Tribute acts - the 'best' worst names you've heard...
Post by: Maybelline on February 20, 2006, 10:32:29 AM
Saw a poster this weekend for an Oasis tribute band called Oasisn't. Once heard Peter Kay (genius) talking about his days being a warm-up for crap tribute acts... his favourite was 'Cher and Cher alike'.......   :D :D ...of course there are the names which are just bad, like Fleetwood Bac.

Well, It wasn't a tribute band per se, just a cover band, but there was a biker cover act in the desert out here called Sweet Crystal.
One by one, the members of the band got saved.
After the entire group became born again, instead of giving up a sure moneymaker and starting a new band, they simply renamed the group Sweet Crystal Powered By God.

I once saw a listing for "The Peach Boys", but I don't think they were paying tribute.

They're pretty good.
My girlfriend was in a Sabbath one called Mistress Of Reality.

Randy looks a tad like the king,  needs to get some surgery on the nose though.

Cover bands I've gigged with or seen live:

AC/Dshe
Lez Zeppelin (all lesbian Zep cover band)
American English (ace Beatles cover band)
Dirty Deeds (AC/DC)
Syncronicity (Police)
Metallideth (obvious, this)

those are the most memorable ones, anyway.  ::)

This is kind of related to this topic...

When Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger "reformed" The Doors without drummer John Densmore a few years ago, they were calling themselves The Doors Of The 21st Century, or Doors 21C.  Well, Densmore didn't agree with this, sued Manzarek and Krieger over the name, and won.  Now Ray and Robby (with singer, Ian Astbury) call themselves the Riders On The Storm.

Does this sound like another band we all know and love?

Female Snoop Dogg impersonator called Sheep Dawgy Dawg. She's a local act that was selling cds outside the book store at my college. Since it's been 5 years and I haven't heard anything about her, must not have been too successful

Ian, you were great as Peer Ubu, opening for Lenny Kravitz On Ice.  Not to mention your Sci-fi/fantasy tribute to the early 90s, D+D Music Factory.

Around my neck of the woods we have:
Super Diamond (Neil Diamond tribute)
Mandonna (male Madonna tribute)
Hell's Belles (female AC/DC tribute)

There's also the fictional Police tribute band from Scranton, PA "Scrantonicity" (as seen on the Office).

I really want to check out Super Diamond, I heard they were great. And I'd love to find a good Ramones tribute band to go and see.

A friend of mine's band opened for Hayseed Dixie recently. The name has amused me ever since I learned of it. Great name.

Only amusing tribute band name that comes to mind is the Joshua Trio (U2), which is clever at first but becomes less funny every time I hear it (to take advise from the Simpsons :lol ).

Somebody told me that there used to be a gay Freddie & The Dreamers/Merseybeat tribute band
in NYC called "Spready & The Reamers". I sure hope that they were making that up.

The first Oasis tribute band had a pretty clever name: No Way, Sis.

The Complete Stone Roses is pretty unimaginative for a Stone Roses tribute band.

He-Manes. That's a Ramones tribute band.
