To be honest, I've never really seen the similitude between those two tracks (apart from both of them being directed at "babies" and having some aspects of instrumentation/production in common).

I think you can play DWB like BMB (see: 73 In Concert, which really plays on it/works) and it's totally written as a girl group tune (didn't Brian want to give it to The Ronettes?). But IDK about a rip-off - one doesn't remind me of the other. The melodies in the verses are a bit similar and they both start in E, mind (DWB changes key sublimely).

Phillip Lambert touches on how similar Be My Baby and Don't Worry Baby are in Songwriter 1962-1969. IIRC, the verses share an almost identical chord progression.

Bingo. The post-age-70 Brian is a miracle, and the difference in spirit between him now and 20 years ago is such an almost unfathomable improvement.

Hence the dark surf-nazi humour.
