Title: The Mountain Goats
Post by: Don_Zabu on March 28, 2010, 06:54:45 PM
Three cheers for the greatest simile anyone has ever written:

In the way those eyes I've always loved illuminate this place
Like a trashcan fire in a prison cell
Like the searchlights in the parking lots of Hell

Which one? I count two similes there.

Both? I dunno.

My point is that John Darnielle is a lyrical visionary.

No argument there. And he looks like he really, really likes to sing and play. And he can speak and write in complete sentences. These things count for a lot with me.

He's good...better than anything I could do...but he's no VDP.

I love VDP but I'd take most Darnielle lyrics over most VDP lyrics.

I guess I just have a soft spot for "over and over the crow cries uncover the cornfield".
