Hmmmm, quirky moments for me would be all of Mount Vernon And Fairway and Love You, of course both releases have their genuis moments in them too.

Oh yeah, nearly forgot My Solution, damn scariest thing I've ever heard!

oh also, they can be musical or just part of his life like painting his house (green?) or asking their garden care taker to dig up a grave for him or recording the Smiley Heroes and Villains echo effect in the pool or his moment in meeting Elvis

I thought that it was pink that the house was painted? Brian painting his face green for the meeting with the Warners people is one of my favourites.

I was thinking you meant post 2004 Smile.

That would be interesting too.

A Day in the Life of a Tree

I like the 1976 video of Brian, Dennis and Carl singing 'I'm Bugged at My Old Man'. Also, the interview of Brian laying in bed talking about laying in bed for 3 1/2 to 4 years (myth!).

Feel Flows live in 1977

Rio Grande

Mike's HOF speach

The last portion of "Fairy Tale Music" (3:36 of the you Tube):

Brian at his best.

Carl's vocal and the Tag on "I'll Bet He's Nice".

one of my fav's musically is Brian's little addition on Wake the World at :25, what was to be believed a music stand falling was actually his 'pulling of the shades/blinds' for letting the light in to wake the world....GENIUS!

The entire "Brian Wilson Speaks With and About Spring" tape...
"Spring is here... why doesn't the night enchant me..."

And, yeah, "I'm Bugged At My Old Man" from the '76 special, the part where he nearly chokes to death and his brothers crack up, then Brian smiles and laughs...

The moment when he sings "All these people, they make me feel so alone", the second time, and the beautiful paradox of the background vocals, from "Midnight's Another Day".  That's as genius as genius gets.

Quirky?  Oh gosh, where to begin...let's just say the entire Love You album and let it go at that.

I guess if we aren't talking music my favorite Brian post 1966 story is about when he met Elvis and freaked him out.  Musically almost everything he did through 1974 or so has some genius.

Laying down onstage mid-set a few years ago with Al Jardine.

What did Brian have to do with "Feel Flows" live in '77? Was he even onstage during this song?

I Went to sleep - the snoring, and of course the whole song
Busy Doin' Nothin' - the directions to his house - brilliant lyrics!
When a Man Loves a Woman - the goofy roller skating rink organ solo - that was Brian, wasn't it?
Had to Phone Ya - the "you . . . you" repeated way past reason . . . first time I heard it it was WTF?
Johnny Carson - when Mike lisps "such a manly tone" - I assume that was Brian's idea
Solar System - "if Mars had life on it, I might find my wife on it" - genius!  Laughed my ass off when I first heard that.

A cigarette butt when you throw it in the water, goes "pffttt"!

All classics. Humor is one of the most unique aspects of the Boys music.

Oops. I was thinking BB moments, not just Brian Wilson.

It's a lyric from Life is for the Living on the unreleased album: Adult Child

And whenever I hear or read that line it sticks to my brain like flies in syrup.

My favorite is also "My Solution". IIRC, AGD, in his book, describes it as "truly bizarre" and I remember reading that and really wanting to hear it. And when I finally did, I was not disappointed.  :)

The whole of Busy Doing Nothin'. There is a distinct off key sound to it...even though it's not off key.  It's beautiful, in it's weirdness.  :)

I think Brian's true genius is in the quirky stuff, anybody could do it but from his childish mind it just takes on new meaning.  Some of my favorites that always make me smile are stuff like

Melt Away - "BUT WHEN I HEAR YOU  TALKIN.... I FEEL MY HEART UNLOCKIN' "  - genius, lol

love & Mercy - in that beautiful bridge with all the vocals... at the end, sounding clearly out of his mind he goes "HEY AY!" .  He's always in Brian World, isn't he?

I heard a story once that someone saw him at a restauraunt in Hawaii, and he was putting butter on pieces of bread, and then sticking the bread to his face.  ? WTF?

Joy To The World - The one he recorded pretty much by himself vocally, the whole song sounds off key but somehow with 20 Brians singing off key it's amazing.  Nobody else could have made that work.

"Pat. Pat. Pat, Pat, Pat Her On Her Butt.. Butt... She's Going To Sleep. Be Quiet!"  Who the hell writes like that?

Hark The Herald Angels Sing - I love how he blends the secular with the spiritual.  The song is spiritual, but he keeps going "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" in it which is more secular.  He does it acapella at the beginning, and it sounds a bit odd with the "WHOO OOOH OOH OOH" 's and things... and then at the end when the music is going and he lays that on top of it, it's really, really really good.  Beautiful work.

This is on a more somber note, but when Marcus from his band was lost in Thailand, he went on Larry King to ask people if they see him to call his manager.  On one level, that's completely asinine to believe that somebody's going to just run into him when 400,000 people died or whatever, but on another hand, it was Brian doing the only thing he knew how to do to help.  Another sign of the beautiful mind of a genius.

The great story of how at a birthday party, he plays Heroes and Villians by request for the birthday girl, even though for years he had been acting like he hated all that stuff and didn't want to talk about any of it.

Tons and tons of stuff he's done, he's quite an interesting person.

I love the end of the vocals only version of Forever when Brian decides to go way to high. Mike laughs, and it sounds like Dennis says 'no, man!'. Then I think Brian says, play it back. Funny moment.

I feel like I've heard this, where he put his head in between to slices of bread like he was gonna eat his eat for lunch...anyone know anymore about this?

I believe the slices of bread was a story told by Tom Petty whom Brian was having dinner with.  If I remember correctly (??) this story is in the book "Beach Boys: In Their Own Words", which is a must read if you want to hear some quirky stories about Brian told by others.

There is the Shortin' Bread story where Brian has (I believe) Danny Hutton, Iggy Pop and maybe Alice Cooper singing SB at a piano during a party and after a while Iggy Pop realizes Brian isn't kidding and says, "I'm out of here, this guy is nuts!" or something like that.  What a riot.

Another is the picture of Brian in his bathrobe (no shirt on underneath) at Keith Moon's B-day party in 1975....classic.

Finally, Brian asking his kids' school bus driver for a cigarette is sad but kinda funny too...
