Is anyone having issues accessing the site today? Like, getting "page cannot be displayed" or any other errors like that?

I did a couple of times this morning-things have been good this afternoon, though.

First time I've been able to be on here all week! (I know some of you were happy about that!)  ;D

Mine has been on and off since Thursday. At least I'm not the only one. I was worried my internet was at fault.

My good buddy on here, Don't Back Down hasn't been able to get on here period!

Recently I've been getting "can't connect to smileysmile.net" messages, while other websites work fine. Also, even though I'm supposed to be logged in "forever", I've had to re-enter my username and password three times this week  :P

same here..about the past 3 days or so...worse today..usually after multiple tries i finally can connect.

Same issues I'm having...just happened again.

I haven't been able to connect either these last 4 days or so when I'm at home. Right now, I'm at work and no problem.

I've been having the same problem with connectivity. Sometimes I can get this site and sometimes I can't, all within the same day. This has been going on since last Thursday.

Is there someone who can please contact the site owner and see what's going on? Thanks!

I keep getting a "broken link" message. Tonight I had to go on Yahoo! and type in Smiley Smile, and just search untill I found the website.

Is anyone else finding they are loathe to leave the site these days just in case it's a nightmare to get back on?

That is why I never log out. I think my record is 17 days.  ;D

Lately I haven't been able to directly get to it. I have to first go to the Smile Shop page, then click on message board. Very rarely can I get directly to the board itself. Weird.

Something is irregular with this board.

I'm getting to the board on an average of every other day. It's not resolving with my ISP all the time. When it's down, I can't even get a ping on the domain name. And I haven't been able to get to this site on campus for over a week.

Same here - this is the first time I've been able to reach the board in a couple of weeks, so I thought I'd better post something.

The problem is getting worse!

I'm located in the good ol' USA, as is this website.  When I stopped being able to access the board through my standard broadband Internet connection last week, I installed software for a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection that routed me through a Dutch-based server.  That worked fine, allowing me to access this website (and this board) -- until a couple of days ago. At that point, the site became unavailable even through the Dutch VPN. So today I installed software for a French-based VPN and, though that connection, I'm again able to access the site.  But I have no great confidence that solution is going to continue to work for long.

Could the site administrator PLEASE figure out what's going on?  Through my regular broadband Internet connection, neither a Ping nor a Trace nor a simple Lookup finds smileysmile.net! It's literally invisible to my Internet provider's DNS server -- and from the comments posted here so far, I gather that situation exists for many others.

No big deal over here - now and then I get an error page, a quick refresh fixes it 99 times out of 100.

FWIW, my browser is Firefox.

The browser doesn't seem to matter. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari ... all return the same results. The problem seems to be that the IP translation for smileysmile.net doesn't seem to be known anymore by some DNS servers. Initially, I'd thought the problem was restricted to the U.S., but since I can't reach the site now through a Dutch-based VPN server, it's obviously more widespread.

What a difference a days makes!

Yesterday, the French-based VPN I was using stopped letting me access smileysmile.net. So earlier today I began installing and trying other free non-U.S.-based VPNs in the hope of finding one that would allow me access.  I put together a list of about a dozen such VPNs and began working my way through them. I got about halfway through the list with no success, when suddenly the problem resolved itself.  One moment, I was unable to access the website, then the next moment I was able to -- and I'd done nothing in between.  A quick check showed that access was available not just through the VPN I was trying at the moment, but also through both the French- and Dutch-based VPNs that earlier had been unsuccessful, as well as my regular broadband Internet connection! And that access has remained constant ever since!

I don't know if the site administrator figured out what was wrong and remedied the situation.  If so, all I can say is "Thank you!"  While computers and networks are my daily business, I was not enjoying the challenge -- primarily because I was on the losing end of it (and that's somewhere I don't like to be). In any event, it seems like the DNS translation for smileysmile.net is widespread again and the problem has been resolved -- at least for me.  Hopefully, no one else is still experiencing access problems.

Nope its still friggin' up more times than it's letting me on so it hasn't been fixed. Tried repeatedly yesterday and on and off this morning before it finally decided to let me on. What is strange is that when I do the maths on the times users have posted I can see that people have been posting while my access to the site was unavailable, therefore the site is down for different users in different parts of the globe at different times.

I don't suppose the owners of this site wish to comment on what the hell is going on here?

(sigh) Yeah, I have to agree.  After easy access on Thursday, I couldn't get on Friday anyway anyhow!  Which makes absolutely no sense at all from a network/DNS standpoint.  I have no idea what's going on!

Today, I couldn't reach smileysmile.net directly through my broadband Internet connection or through the Dutch-based VPN I can connect to.  But the French-based VPN connection I've installed lets me through with no problem.  Truly bizzare.

Are the site's administrators even paying the least bit of attention?!!

I don't understand it either. Here at home it's no problem at all. But at work I can't get access these days. That is, I have 2 jobs, at job #1 no access, at job #2 no problems...

I'll forward these complaints to Chuck, maybe he knows what's going on...

No, Chuck doesn't know what is happening.  I've had the server that handles this domain and comiclist.com go down for short periods of time, but I've not had any issues accessing the sites from one place or another.

Stranger and stranger ...

Just an hour later and I can now access the site through my regular broadband connection, wtihout having to use a foreign-based VPN.

First time I've been able to log in in probably three weeks. I am thinking I've got a lot of catching up to do. Did I miss anything? Has Al released his album yet? Have the Beach Boys reunited?

No, but Brian finally admitted that he had NOTHING to do with BWPS, and Darian, Melinda and David Leaf put it together themselves....

Mine, too. And I still have problems. Oddly enough, I've had more problems since I've had Firefox than when I had Explorer.  Weird how it works; I still get here mostly through the Smile Shop main page than directly coming to it.

When is this logging in problem going to be resolved?

By sheer fluke I've managed to log on after 2/3 weeks having tried 10's of links through Google searches. It's bloody annoying...

I think the mods are misappropriating our membership dues!

For what it's worth...the other mods and I are not the ones who really control how the board is "run". Not as in banhammers and reading your PMs (shhhhhh), but as in the coding and all other interweb jargon. Chuck is the one to ask.

Just adding my experience to the record. I can usually access the board from home, but hardly ever from work.

It still doesn't let me see it at school. I'm home now and it's only here I am actually able to be on here!

Some of you may be joyous of such, but coming in May....  :lol

From my Swedish point of view: at home it seldom works, but from other's computers there are hardly any problem. I was beginning to think that the more often you visit the page, the harder it is to get it to work, but that can't be right...

I have been unable to visit for over a month, either at home or at work...I thought I was banned or something.

I'll edit this to say that I probably hadn't tried for a week or so, as I had given up on ole smiley smile. I'm glad it's back up or that I can access it again or whatever...

I'm no longer able to get this board on campus, still getting it at home.

It's baffling....

After posting the last post, I was not able to get on for the next two days.

I can't get on here at work but I'm fine at home. Previously I was able to get on at work. The Websense at work only blocks porn.

I can get on at home now rather sporadically  - but at uni i wasn't able to.

FINALLY AFTER 2 WEEKS OF GETTING NOTHING BUT "CANNOT DISPLAY WEBPAGE" I HAVE AT LAST GOT ON!!!!! WHOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!! BET YOU ALL THOUGHT YOU WERE WELL RID OF ME!!!!!

I gave this web address to 5 people at work yesterday and asked them to try access it from their home computers. All five this morning told me they instantly got on! Bastards! They all hate the Beach Boys and have no interest in this site whatsoever!!  >:(

I seem to be having more joy on Google Chrome getting here but even thats no guarantee.

I would like to hear from any posters who have had little or no trouble getting on the board in the past month or so.  What's your secret guys?

No secret - if I get a 404, I just refresh... and if that doesn't work, i go somewhere else for a few minutes. Longest I've been unable to connect is maybe six hours, but 99% of the time, straight on. I use Vista & Firefox, if that means anything.

For the past few weeks I can't get to the board at work any more. It's not being blocked there - it comes up as a DNS problem. Haven't had problems at home in a long, long time.

This must be fixed. Look what happened to the whiteboard. It used to be a fresh and living BB community, much as this one, but after several crashes it's the web equivalent to a ghost town now. Wouldn't want that to happen to SS.

Well put. When I do get on it's not nearly as busy as it used to be. The guy with the Columbo avatar seems to have vanished, I used to enjoy his posts. Same goes to Sherrif John Stone.

I haven't been able to get on for a month. Yesterday, trying for the umpteenth time to get on I accidently typed smileysmile.com - realizing my mistake I replaced the .com with .net and viola! I got on. This morning I typed in smileysmile.net and got the error message - I then thought 'try going to smileysmile.com and then replace the .com with .net and maybe, like yesterday, you'll be able to get on' - I did just that and it worked.

Coincidence? Maybe. But it got me on the site - if anyone is having trouble getting on I recommend trying this - then again, if you are reading this post you are obviously not having problems lol.

I am so glad I found this forum about the error....I was about to buy a router/netbook thinking my computer was at fault (yes, I'd go through that just to read/post on this great site lol).

Weird. I had written off the SSNet board, to be honest. Because countless attempts and refresh actions and prayers and suicide attempts did not work. However, today is my lucky day, or so it seems. I am projecting my next successful login for, um, 2023, around the time the Smile-box will be released.

Here's a helpfull hint. After 20 or so unsuccessful attempts to access the site I screamed at my laptop "F**KING LET ME ON YOU BASTARD!" 'Lo and behold the next attempt instantly put me on the site. Hey, it worked for me!   ;)

I've been way too busy to do any posting for quite a while now, but whenever I had free time, I'd come check up here to see what was going on. Idk if I just have the worst timing in the world or if there were major problems, but every time I tried to check, I had an issue with it not loading. I'd refresh a few times and then leave when it didn't work, so I'm not sure how long it was down each time. But it's nice to be posting something for the first time since probably January, lol.

First time on for me in at least three weeks, or however long it has been since my last post. I try it once a day.

I was away since... eh, can't remember anymore. Could not get in for a month, or longer. Don't know why...

Just wanted to clarify that for whatever reason, I am posting on and viewing the site fine. And I appear to be the only one...

All day yesterday the board was actually down - came up with some page like the domain hadn't been claimed or something..... What's going on?

There were domain name registration issues thanks to HostICan.  I will be switching to Network Solutions ASAP.  And my apologies for the interruption.

Yay! And anytime you need anything Chuck, to keep the board open or going or whatever -- let me know. Cause I couldn't handle the day of downtime!

Same here man. I felt weird and I couldn't even go to the European BB board because as an American, I felt awkward!

12 days without being able to get on! That must be my personal best (or worst!). For two days it just came up with a shot of some random chick and crap like how to get a Kokomo mp3????

Just so everyone knows, the smileysmile.net domain name is now being managed by Network Solutions.  I do not believe there should be any issues caused by that change in the short term, but if you see something odd, please be patient, and let me know what happened.  Hopefully, this change will solve some of the other board access issues people have been seeing.

I had the same issue this morning, but repeated refreshes sort it out mostly.

Same issues here as others have had.  Sometimes can't get on for weeks at a time.  Makes no difference if it's home or at work.  Very frustrating. 

I've been having issues for months up until the last 2 or 3 days...I've finally been able to get on without any problems, any time of day.  Hopefully I didn't jinx myself by saying that!

First time I've been able to see the board since May 2. Although I did stop trying daily a few weeks ago.

This could be a good sign then....
