Title: Dumb Angel 3 Love you demos
Post by: donald on February 24, 2010, 06:44:13 PM
I was just listening to this tonight and it occured to me that Brian was on quite the creative streak crafting some first rate songs.  In particular, "I'll Bet He's Nice".   (I wish to thank the source for this music ;)     )

The released version is nice....especially Carl's vocal.  BUT....I kept imagining, in my mind, the song being wrapped around by some pristine Beach Boys vocal harmony.  I think the band missed a chance to hit the mainstream again while Brian was hot in the mid 70's.

I get this notion each time I get around to listening to these tapes.

What say you BB scholars out there?

I listened to the Love You demos before I listened to the lp, so imagine that transition. It was quite amazing to be honest...to hear them worked up in order. That being said, I enjoy the lp a lot...but I keep going back to the demos.

The demos are a rough listen vocally. The demo's for Awake, and Won't You Tell Him were only five years earlier and there is such a difference. I do admit though that the Brian Loves You LP did convince me how good I'll Bet He's Nice is. I couldn't get into the real version until I heard the solo one.

I love the Love You demos.  Just to hear Mike's reaction in the middle of I'll Bet He's Nice always makes me laugh and smile....wooooooo! woo ho ho ho! priceless. Go Brian!
