Post by: Andrew G. Doe on February 07, 2010, 06:11:07 AM
Thanks to the generosity of David Beard & ESQ, this is the new home of my BB website -

http://www.esquarterly.com/bellagio/ (http://www.esquarterly.com/bellagio/).

Updates are proceeding.

Updates?

*IS EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!*

I'd like to thank you for your site, Mr.Doe. I spend entirely too much time on it, and it's been a huge help with organizing my non-album stuff.

Please tell me you're gonna update "The Ones That Got Away"!  I'd love to read about "Stars and Stripes 2", "Unleash The Love", etcetera.

Not to mention, obviously, that "A World Of Peace Must Come" has since been released.

Any specific reason for this migration? (just being curious)

It's a natural now that Andrew's a full-time contributor of ESQ.

David is being too modest - back in November, without any notice whatsoever, my IP pulled the plug on the support on the free webspace that (formerly) came with my package, which meant that I couldn't update my pages. I mentioned it in a conversation about something else entirely and he offered to host 10452.

Now that explains. Must be pretty frustrating that you weren't able to update anything at all. And very classy that David offered you this option.

OK, just finished updating the gigs section, including some significant new information concerning the BBs shows at Pandora's Box: also added an overview of the tours post-1999 (not Mike & Bruce's US tours, of course: business as usual there), here - http://www.esquarterly.com/bellagio/gigspost99.html (http://www.esquarterly.com/bellagio/gigspost99.html).

Also, pretty much finished my interview with Sharon Marie (who, like most people who associated with the band in the early 60s, is a truly nice person) and will start beating it into shape soon. Some nice new info, and all in all, new light on what it was like to be around them back then.

Hey AGD,

I just noticed that if one does a Google-search for your Bellagio website (for instance "bellagio AGD", or "bellagio beach boys") all you get is the old www.btinternet.com/~bellagio/ website, but the new http://esquarterly.com/bellagio/index.html is nowhere to be found (OK, unless you search for "bellagio esquarterly"). Any way to remove the old link (or is btinternet not even allowing that anymore?) and make your new section at ESQ more findable? I can imagine that you don't want the fans to keep looking at the wrong place (if they happened to be unaware of the new bellagio-site).

Excellent point. Anyone know a way around that ?

BTW, just updated the 'Albums' section to include selected compilations, i.e. those that include material unavailable elsewhere.

Ai, that probably means that you can't access the old bellagio at all, doesn't it? Is there any way to inform btinternet to clean it up themselves?

As for getting esq's bellagio high in the Google search results: I wouldn't know. But I'd certainly like to know as well.

No - one day in November last year, I tried to access the site to update it and... nothing. Changed FTP programs several times... nothing. In the end, contacted BT and was told, with no hint of an apology, that support for the free webspace had been terminated (with no notice whatsoever, I might add). I repeatedly asked them for the access codes and they just repeated the "support has been terminated" line.  Given that attitude, I'm dubious they'd delete the pages - but I'll ask.

Here's another good time to thank David Beard & Philip Chow for hosting 10452 on the ESQ server: without their kind offer and technical expertise, the site would have sat on BT with no updates. Thank you, gentlemen.

AGD, you (or whoever handles the coding) can add meta keywords (Bellagio, Beach Boys, etc.) to your html code that will direct search engines to the new site. We won't see the words, but the search engines will.

Edit: After looking at the code, I see you do have meta keywords. It would help, however, if you put some commas between phrases and repeat all the variations, i.e. "Beach Boys, The Beach Boys, Bellagio, Bellagio 10452," etc.
