Title: I've Got A Friend - soundboard?
Post by: The Shift on February 03, 2010, 09:07:34 AM
Spent the afternoon at my desk listening to clunky slipper live slippers of Dennis's I've Got a Friend.  One of my fave Dennis songs. Anyone know if there's a soundboard recording, and whether one has ever circulated?

Must be a front runner for any further official Dennis releases if there's a studio or good live recording of this. The guy really was the creative gem in the band throughout the 70s.

As has been stated many times over the past few years...there is a basic studio track in existence of I've Got A Friend from around '71, no vocals or major production elements on it, just a basic track...piano, drums, bass, maybe a little guitar. The only live recordings to have surfaced are not soundboard quality.

Many thanks for the clarification Jon; I thought I remembered as much about a studio recording but didn't know whether it'd ever been recorded live or not.  Such a shame....

And even in that raw form, it's a killer.  ;D

Does anyone have the lyrics to I Got a Friend? The available versions are so unclear they are hard to hear.

would be perfect for Taylor Hawkins

Won't happen. I've Got A Friend is controlled by BRI...Hawkins was brought in to the Legacy project via Caribou...no synergy.

How about Carl B. Wilson?

My vote goes to David Marks. I don't know as much about as some here do, but he sang "Forever" beautifully!

I seem to be the only other person who thinks this but he sounds an awful lot like the early Dennis.

When I saw Mike and the boys last year, I have to admit that his vocals were the least impressive, especially on You're So Good to Me

Someone Please Mayonnaise (SUBTLETY IS ALIVE AND WELL, FOLKS) me the backing track and any live recordings and I'll combine those suckas. I've done it with three Elliott Smith tracks with fairly successful results - it takes a bit of time and energy, but it's worth it.

As has been mentioned in many threads before this one: the studio backing track of I've Got A Friend isn't circulating at all (, and will probably stay in the faults for some time I guess).

Errr... he can 'do' a chilling Carl, and a very reasonable Brian... but I've not heard him come even close to Dennis, be it 63, 73 or 83.

AH BALLS. I guess I accidentally read it as circulating.
