Title: Ray Romano's "Men Of A Certain Age" & The Beach Boys
Post by: jeremylr on December 08, 2009, 12:14:02 AM
Monday, December 7th, was the series premiere of Men Of A Certain Age, starring Ray Romano, Scott Bakula, & Andre Braugher on TNT.  I dvr'd it, & the pilot episode began with the Beach Boys' song "When I Grow Up To Be A Man."

The series is critically acclaimed, & TNT is counting on it to revitalize their ratings.  Just cool that the Beach Boys have the theme song to this much-hyped series.

Wonder if that will be a regular opening theme

I disagree that they "butchered it".  They went straight to the vocals and didn't wait for the last four bars of each verse played.  Understand, this is an opening to a tv show with time considerations.  This is how it plays out...minus the last four bars/beats (sorry, I'm not a musician)

Opening swell:  When I Grow Up to Be A Man

Will I dig the same things that turned me on as a kid
Will I look back and wish I hadn't done what I did
Will I joke around...and still make those sounds

When I Grow Up To Be a Man

There are virtually no breaks between lyrics/singing.  Edited, of course.  But I don't consider it butchered.  The entire time for this to play is about 23 seconds.
