I believe it was written by Brian, Wasserman and Sam Phillips (the singer, not the legend). And yes, it is Carnie singing

I believe it was written by Brian, Wasserman and Sam Phillips (the singer, not the legend). And yes, it is Carnie singing

Brian wrote the middle eight - the bit that sounds somewhat like "Shortenin' Bread".   ::) ::)
