Surely this can't be right? Al's website still says "release details coming soon". Surely they would have changed that by now if it was coming out in a few days!

After such a long wait, I hope he's going to treat us to at least one more re-recording of one of the Beach Boys' golden greats. ;D

In the interview Al did a few weeks ago he said that it would take quite a while to print up the cover art and that he wouldn`t mind even delaying it until next year. I can`t see it being out this soon.

Al d... said that it would take quite a while to print up the cover art...

Longer than it takes to record and release the album? Is the cover art being hand-etched by the same monks who produced the Lindisfarne Gospels?

Err, no. But the album has already been recorded. The artwork hadn`t been done when he gave the interview. Simple enough for you?

Is Al subconsciously (or consciously?) trying to manufacture his own SMiLE?

Nothing on Amazon.com (they always list new releases well in advance)

Isn't that a picture of the cover art on Al's website? And it's been there for ages now - not sure, but pretty much since I can remember the album being announced the cover art has been there.

If its the same material that was posted last year I would save that money for another time. I 've always liked Al  but the material I heard was pretty weak. Do we need a blues version of "Help Me Rhonda"? I kind of doubt it.

it doesn't technically say Sept 7 of this year  ::)

I HATE the blues version of Rhonda BTW. But Al's debut album is historic in any Beach Boys collection. So I will buy it no matter what. Heck, I hate "The Beach Boys Love You" LP, but bought it so my collection would be complete.

Yes but read the original post - it's the printing that takes the time, right?

Well, it's not a blues version per se. But in fact the song that inspired "Help me Rhonda" was a R'n'B-song. Listen here:

So, what does everybody think of Al's album?  Do you like it?   I'm sure you all rushed to the local record store to get a copy on its release day..    :-X

Brilliant. Better than BWPS, easily so. On a par with Summer In Paradise, is my first impression.

I bought two copies: one to remain sealed in my CD collection, and one for the in-laws.

I've buried one copy for safekeeping, and am currently getting a solid gold cabinet to host my second one.

I wonder why no one got the Audio-DVD. There's alot of bonus on it, including video for the sessions with Brian and Mike

The normal cd was sold out at my local record store so I got the deluxe boxset version that includes the complete "Loop de Loop" sessions, a polka version of "Help Me, Rhonda" and a real size Al Jardine action figure.

Haha, both the CD and the delux edition were sold out in whole Galway :). And the shop owner didnīt know when the next delivery will arrive ;-)
But, Al promised us that everyone with a ticket from his European tour of 2007 will get a free copy... so, actually I donīt need to buy it. Am sure my free copy is going to arrive tomorrow or at least on Wednesday :)

By the way.. I am still confused with some of the songs (or with the samples we heard). There are enough samples of the title-track "Postcards from California" to cut a own "Fan Version" (and it totally matches the Live Version) but I am not sure what Alan is trying to tell us with this song. The lyrics would perfectly fit into Summer In Paradise...

But some other songs like "Donīt fight the Sea", "Driving", "Looking down the coast" plus "And I always will" sound promesing, donīt they?

Agree on the versions of Postcard -  quite a difference between the Al and the Glen lead vocals. Al's aged better, Glen's got more grit, I'd say.

What I've heard is OK.   Some of it might be nice to put on a comp with later day solo and Beach Boys.

I thought Big Sur Christmas was .....fun.   Also would be nice on a comp with Brian's xmas lp and some of the better ultimate xmas stuff.

I guess I'm saying what I've heard doesn't equal a fully worthwhile album.   After all of this time it ought to be a masterpiece.
