Title: Tampa Bay Rays Post Game Concert Post by: Outie 315 on August 28, 2009, 01:28:26 PM Mike , Bruce & The Rays: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090827&content_id=6648402&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Title: Re: Tampa Bay Rays Post Game Concert Post by: The Shift on August 28, 2009, 03:18:58 PM This is a rather misleading story. The inference is definitely that Mike, Brian, Al, Dave and Bruce will all be playing together. It doesn't actually say they are but it names the five as the original surviving members, then rattles on without clarifying that only two of those named are still in the band. Clever, and rotten too.

The band is legendarily estranged: Brian Wilson (the creative genius) won't have anything to do with them; Al Jardine (the only one to have retained a truly great voice) was fired years ago; Dave Marks (a great guitarist) is occasionally invited to play, presumably to make up numbers. What concert goers get is just Bruce Johnston and Mike Love, whom play the hits in great style with a bunch of talented backing musicians. A very authentic tribute band, licensed to use the name "The Beach Boys". So you get a great show, that's well-worth seeing, but not very many Beach Boys at all. Enjoy! |
