Title: Funny Names For Beach Boys Compilations
Post by: SmileySam on August 27, 2009, 08:00:07 PM
Does anybody have any ideas of funny names for compilations? Mine is 'B.O.B.B. Album' (Best Of Beach Boys Album). A mockery of M.I.U. and L.A.

I don't have any new, funny ones, but I always thought Ten Years Of Harmony was the worst - for a group who was approaching its 20th Anniversary at the time. And, yes, I know what the title of the comp actually meant...

...and forgetting the fact that the previous 10 years (or ensuing 10 years, for that matter) were ANYTHING but harmonious.

Some ideas for stickers that they could put on future "greatest hits" compilations:

"You'd better buy this one too, or we'll just assume that people don't care for The Beach Boys anymore and put that 'Smile' box set that we're about to release on an indefinate hold."

"Includes the song that PAUL McCARTNEY said is his favorite."

"For the last time, this doesn't include 'Surf City' and 'Beach Baby' because they're not Beach Boys songs, dummy."

"Yeah, this is like the 10th compilation that we called 'Good Vibrations' - so f**king what?"

"Classic super group, featuring members of Celebration, The Survivors, Kenny & The Cadets and the Endless Summer Band!"

If I weren't certain the Zappa estate would find issue with it, We're Only In It For The Money seems apt.

I remember finding a best of cd about 10 years ago called 'Surfs Up'. But that song was not even on it! Just the same old songs that you normaly get. I was very upset because I couldn't find that song anywhere at the time. It was right before the twofers were released.

That comp was part of a bunch of similar budget priced discs. Usually they were 10 tracks: 2 or 3 hits and the rest deep cuts from the Capitol years. Back when I was first starting out in my fandom (pre-1990 2fers), those comps were the first places where I heard things like Girl Don't Tell Me and Your Summer Dream.

Brian Wilson Presents SHORTENIN' BREAD

I love this one. Esp. if it refers to the infamous Iggy Pop event, where Brian scared all present with a 45 minute rendition of Shortening Bread... I expect this package to include some little plastic bags with the Bolivian Marching Powder, to make listening bearable.

I betcha the reverse happens a lot, too. People are searching for a random Beach Boys album to buy, "Hmm... Surf's Up sounds like a good one... I don't recognize the names of these songs, but I probably know them, I mean the band only has like 10 songs..." and then they hear a very non-beachy album.

From the album sticker idea, to save printing costs, "Brian's favorite Beach Boys album!" (could be put on how many albums? The Many Moods of Mike Love (saw that somewhere actually),Do It Again (Bill Jackson lyrics),Bachman Wilson Overdrive (instead of KTSA).

Because the Beach Boys (especially Mike) are reliving the same day over and over and over...

:) yup, this one too, though I thought of 3,000 comps and each one being just like the one before (although it's changed a bit as we know...).
