Yeah. That was one song that we thought about recording too. Do you know "Are you gonna be my girl" by JET? There's a part that sounds like it was directly taken from HSBI. Anyway, I'm excited for your version.... All the best

Yeah, I think the rhythm of that part in the Jet song sounds more like Iggy Pop's Lust For Life... but still similar.
I'm thinking of doing How She Boogalooed It with a kinda Srokes sound. I think it will really suit the song.

Yeah, IIRC the bassline was definitely taken from Iggy Pop.  But there's also some HSBI-part in there. I believe they also said so in an interview, or at least mentioned the WH-album...

But you're right, I think if this turns out good and everyone enjoys it, then maybe we could do a vol. 2 or maybe do such a thing every once in a while. There are enough songs to choose from I guess... ;)

I left home, and thus the majority of my equipment,  before i did any satisfactory work on my choice, and still cannot sing. I know a girl who can sing, so might be able to produce something.

I do have a track of Ol' Man River, which i did with Audacity software, which is very similar to Brian's version. Anyone fancy a go on vocals?

Which version? The one on the two-fer or the one on "Hawthorne"? I might try it, but I can't promise anything so if others like to do it then go ahead. Since we are still working (recording) "Wild honey" I don't know if I'll have enough time

Kind of both - it stays two-fer til about 3 minutes in, where it goes into the organ based Hawthorne thing. Starts in F and ends up in G#. I can upload it to something tomorrow if you or anybody else wants to have a go.

Both my tracks kinda suck right now (night was so young & lets put our hearts...) so I'm moving on to A day in the life of a Tree. I can't possibly screw up the vox too bad on that one! :-D

You don't need to upload the whole project. A vocal track can be done along the mp3 and then send to you, so you can do the final mix

I've got my guitar track done and thats about it, we had some flooding here in Atlanta and I have been cleaning mud out of my music room for a week. My bass amp and cabinet were hit pretty hard, not sure if they will be salvageable yet or not. I'm going to try and press on as soon as I can.

That sucks man. Hopefully they'll be ok.

I Havent even tried to power on the head yet, just letting it dry out. My room was the only one that had any damage luckily. I had most everything up off the floor but I forgot about the head, it's just an old Peavey that I used in a college band so it's not a huge loss. We were lucky compared to our neighbors.

Finally had a chance to listen to it. My problem would be that I don't know where the vocals should come in. Right now though I can't even think about recording my vocals as we're still working on "Wild honey"

I did kind of bungle the beginning - I recorded it in a hurry. It's the second time in, so there's guitar for one, everything else comes in for one, and then the vocals go on three..... if that makes sense?

It comes along quite good, thank you. We'll try to get a piano on the track and then we shall start mixing. Hope it won't take too long because I'll have to go back to university soon which will take all my time from the week (I study in a different town so I'm only home at weekend).
I'll practice singing on your track, but I don't know if it will be good enough even to record and of course don't know how long it might take me. Would be cool if someone else was interested in singing. Didn't someon write tht in the original thread in the main-section? Maybe you could pm that person....

Well, we're done with "Wild honey". Will send it as soo as I have the final file. I think it turned out ok. Some good sounds.

So I'm scratching my previous one and going to do "San Miguel" if all goes well.

What does everyone think about pushing the deadline back a month to the end of November. I'm not really happy with what I have so far and I dont think I'm gonna have time for the fixes. I havent received any submissions yet so I'm guessing everyone is in the same boat. Thoughts?

Sounds great to me! I was just about to ask for this myself. "You Still Believe In Me" is nearly finished, but I won't have time putting the finishing touches on it in time to Halloween.

My Song is not finnished yet... The Backing Track is PERFECT but my vocals suck. I asked a friend of mine to sing it - he agreed but I haven´t heard much from him lately...

It rocked hard, which in my book is the most important thing when covering this song.  :) Interesting instrumentation - do I hear a Jew's harp? Frenetic bongoism as well. Nice transition from the extended solo to the part with the original solo (beginning with the Em chord). However, I would've liked the lead vocal to be an octave higher, or at least have a sloppy doubling (as in "You Need a Mess of Help") an octave higher for a more desperate feel.  :) Nice work (and definitely more competently performed than my submission)!

What is this project?

Thunderfingers75 had the idea that every SmileySmile-member who wants to take part of this, records an own version of a Beach Boys-song and sends him so he could collect them all in one folder and upload it. Unfortunately not much seems to have come out of it.

If I can get the time in this weekend/upcoming week I'll do my best & shoot for February if we are extending the deadline. School started this past week & I've been extremely busy.

I don't think it would be a problem to extend the timeline again. But did anyone hear from Thunderfingers75? After al he is the one we send the finished files to....

He hasn't been online since December 1st...  :-\

Well, who knowa what happened to him. Hopefully nothing serious. Maybe someone could write him an email. But of course we can also do it on our own. We just need someone who will upload the finished files in one folder when all are finished. I could do it, it's just that I am just at the computer I'll use to collect the files on weekends. I think there was only about 3 or 4 finished songs. might be an idea to collect various BB covers posted here on this board over the years and upload them somewhere. Doubt anyone would mind.

While I'm pretty sure almost anyone who has posted their songs here would be fine with it, I think it would be a good (and ethical) gesture to confirm the inclusion of any material with the posters before using it.

Hey Rocker, I just now recorded my version of Wontcha Come Out Tonite on my four track and want to send you a copy for the tribute project, so I'm just giving you that heads up!

Just a reminder:

Tomorrow is the last day you can send me your files for this particular project. After I got all the files, I will try to get a good sequence on them and then I will send the tracklist to Don't Back Down so that he and ESQEditor can fill in the tracklists to their artwork(s). When I get the ok from the artwork-front, we can more or less at the same time upload our files into this thread

Ok, I got all the stuff and made a tracklist. Now the artwork gets done and we will post the download-links on sunday.
