Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on August 31, 2009, 05:13:44 AM How She Boogalooed It ... possibly the least talked about beach boys song. Yeah. That was one song that we thought about recording too. Do you know "Are you gonna be my girl" by JET? There's a part that sounds like it was directly taken from HSBI. Anyway, I'm excited for your version.... All the best Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Thunderfingers75 on August 31, 2009, 12:29:09 PM I think I finally decided on one......

Anyway, I'm excited for your version.... All the best Yeah, I think the rhythm of that part in the Jet song sounds more like Iggy Pop's Lust For Life... but still similar. I'm thinking of doing How She Boogalooed It with a kinda Srokes sound. I think it will really suit the song. Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on September 02, 2009, 04:03:32 AM How She Boogalooed It ... possibly the least talked about beach boys song. Yeah. But there's also some HSBI-part in there. I believe they also said so in an interview, or at least mentioned the WH-album... Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: hypehat on September 04, 2009, 04:10:55 AM I'm thinking of doing 'Everybody Wants to Live'.
edit- if someone would like to add vocals to a track i make, that would be immensely preferable :-D Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on September 27, 2009, 08:47:02 AM I'd like to know how far you guys are.... Any problems or other things?

Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: ♩♬🐸 Billy C ♯♫♩🐇 on September 29, 2009, 12:32:11 AM Finished, and will send, but started working on something else that might be better. If I don't finish that by tommorrow, I'll send the other one instead.
Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on September 29, 2009, 04:57:15 PM I'd like to know how far you guys are.... Any problems or other things? I won't be able to finish Sloop anytime soon...too much going on unfortunately. Maybe next time around. Too bad. Was looking forward to hearing it. But you're right, I think if this turns out good and everyone enjoys it, then maybe we could do a vol. 2 or maybe do such a thing every once in a while. There are enough songs to choose from I guess... ;) Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: hypehat on September 30, 2009, 03:16:29 PM I left home, and thus the majority of my equipment, before i did any satisfactory work on my choice, and still cannot sing. I know a girl who can sing, so might be able to produce something.
I do have a track of Ol' Man River, which i did with Audacity software, which is very similar to Brian's version. Anyone fancy a go on vocals? Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on September 30, 2009, 04:19:27 PM I left home, and thus the majority of my equipment, before i did any satisfactory work on my choice, and still cannot sing. I know a girl who can sing, so might be able to produce something. I do have a track of Ol' Man River, which i did with Audacity software, which is very similar to Brian's version. Anyone fancy a go on vocals? Which version? The one on the two-fer or the one on "Hawthorne"? I might try it, but I can't promise anything so if others like to do it then go ahead. Since we are still working (recording) "Wild honey" I don't know if I'll have enough time Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: hypehat on September 30, 2009, 06:05:10 PM Kind of both - it stays two-fer til about 3 minutes in, where it goes into the organ based Hawthorne thing. Starts in F and ends up in G#. I can upload it to something tomorrow if you or anybody else wants to have a go.
Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on October 01, 2009, 05:51:22 AM I can upload it to something tomorrow if you or anybody else wants to have a go. Sure. Even if no one gets around to record vocals, it could be used as an instrumental track... Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: hypehat on October 01, 2009, 06:44:31 AM Have a butchers, then:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?2yytgjgmlrq I'm back home for the weekend, so i'll fix the couple of inevitable mistakes in there. Hope you like it :) That's just an mp3, if anyone decides to have a crack at it i'll upload the project files up there, but it's a big old thing. Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: grillo on October 01, 2009, 07:38:16 AM Both my tracks kinda suck right now (night was so young & lets put our hearts...) so I'm moving on to A day in the life of a Tree. I can't possibly screw up the vox too bad on that one! :-D
Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on October 01, 2009, 07:39:09 AM I'll listen to it when I get home myself.
You don't need to upload the whole project. A vocal track can be done along the mp3 and then send to you, so you can do the final mix Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Thunderfingers75 on October 01, 2009, 08:15:38 AM I've got my guitar track done and thats about it, we had some flooding here in Atlanta and I have been cleaning mud out of my music room for a week. My bass amp and cabinet were hit pretty hard, not sure if they will be salvageable yet or not. I'm going to try and press on as soon as I can.
Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: hypehat on October 01, 2009, 02:01:18 PM That sucks man. Hopefully they'll be ok.
Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Thunderfingers75 on October 01, 2009, 02:26:48 PM That sucks man. Hopefully they'll be ok. I Havent even tried to power on the head yet, just letting it dry out. My room was the only one that had any damage luckily. I had most everything up off the floor but I forgot about the head, it's just an old Peavey that I used in a college band so it's not a huge loss. We were lucky compared to our neighbors. Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on October 04, 2009, 02:04:04 PM Have a butchers, then: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?2yytgjgmlrq I'm back home for the weekend, so i'll fix the couple of inevitable mistakes in there. Hope you like it :) That's just an mp3, if anyone decides to have a crack at it i'll upload the project files up there, but it's a big old thing. Finally had a chance to listen to it. My problem would be that I don't know where the vocals should come in. Right now though I can't even think about recording my vocals as we're still working on "Wild honey" Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: hypehat on October 05, 2009, 05:27:45 AM I did kind of bungle the beginning - I recorded it in a hurry. It's the second time in, so there's guitar for one, everything else comes in for one, and then the vocals go on three..... if that makes sense?
Looking forward to Wild Honey, though. Hows it coming along? Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on October 05, 2009, 07:03:35 AM I did kind of bungle the beginning - I recorded it in a hurry. It's the second time in, so there's guitar for one, everything else comes in for one, and then the vocals go on three..... if that makes sense? Looking forward to Wild Honey, though. Hows it coming along? It comes along quite good, thank you. We'll try to get a piano on the track and then we shall start mixing. Hope it won't take too long because I'll have to go back to university soon which will take all my time from the week (I study in a different town so I'm only home at weekend). I'll practice singing on your track, but I don't know if it will be good enough even to record and of course don't know how long it might take me. Would be cool if someone else was interested in singing. Didn't someon write tht in the original thread in the main-section? Maybe you could pm that person.... http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,7657.0.html (http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,7657.0.html) Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: DSamore on October 06, 2009, 12:15:50 PM I'd be happy to lay down vocals on any track anyone needs vocals for! :-D
Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: hypehat on October 06, 2009, 01:32:08 PM By all means, try mine - there's a link further up the page. I'd love for it to be actually realised with vocals.
More than one person can give it a go, if you can figure out the harmonies - this is a group project, after all! Any musical suggestions are welcome too :) Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on October 18, 2009, 01:49:22 PM Well, we're done with "Wild honey". Will send it as soo as I have the final file. I think it turned out ok. Some good sounds.
Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Don't Back Down on October 18, 2009, 09:19:03 PM So I'm scratching my previous one and going to do "San Miguel" if all goes well.
Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Thunderfingers75 on October 21, 2009, 06:59:20 AM What does everyone think about pushing the deadline back a month to the end of November. I'm not really happy with what I have so far and I dont think I'm gonna have time for the fixes. I havent received any submissions yet so I'm guessing everyone is in the same boat. Thoughts?
Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on October 21, 2009, 10:11:38 AM Well, as mentioned we're finished, so it doesn't matter that much to me if we're pushing it back

It rocked hard, which in my book is the most important thing when covering this song. :) Interesting instrumentation - do I hear a Jew's harp? Frenetic bongoism as well. Nice transition from the extended solo to the part with the original solo (beginning with the Em chord). However, I would've liked the lead vocal to be an octave higher, or at least have a sloppy doubling (as in "You Need a Mess of Help") an octave higher for a more desperate feel. :) Nice work (and definitely more competently performed than my submission)!Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on December 11, 2009, 06:17:34 AM I told our guitarplayer to upload our recording to MySpace because I thought we all would be finished by now. We just need someone who will upload the finished files in one folder when all are finished. I could do it, it's just that I am just at the computer I'll use to collect the files on weekends. If you want it to be a part of this, please send an mp3-file of it to me. This is for all: if no one else wants to do it, you can send me all of your corntibutions (in mp3-format) and as soon as I have them all, I will upload them and post the link here. my adress is: onkelzlife@gmx.de Please use the subject "SmileySmile-Music" or something that I will easily recognize. Let's set a deadline on March 31st, 2010 It would be great if anyone would want to do some kind of artwork or had an idea for it. Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: richardsnow on March 01, 2010, 05:45:07 AM done ;-)

Sounds interesting. Again, if anyone wants to do some artwork, go ahead.
Oh and please tell me if another name than your SmileySmile-nick should be on your file. Of course the nicknames will be seen too.... Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: roll plymouth rock on March 18, 2010, 01:59:43 PM Any chance this project is still open for submissions?
Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on March 19, 2010, 04:13:17 AM Any chance this project is still open for submissions? Sure. Until and including March 31st you can send as much as you want to Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Don't Back Down on March 19, 2010, 08:46:23 PM Let's set a deadline on March 31st, 2010 It would be great if anyone would want to do some kind of artwork or had an idea for it. I might be able to work up a cover. I can work out some designs this weekend/upcoming week. It would be easier than doing a cover of a Beach Boys tune for me at the moment. I have so many other projects going on. I'm graduating college this May so I'll finally have time to work on something over the summer for whenever the next one is. I've been working on some sketches tonight. How is this for a title: Smiley Smiley dot net presents....God Only Knows What We'd Be Without Brian Wilson Too cheesy, or does it work? I'm open to opinions :) Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: ESQ Editor on March 21, 2010, 02:09:47 AM Let's set a deadline on March 31st, 2010 It would be great if anyone would want to do some kind of artwork or had an idea for it. Very interesting. I'd like to do the artwork. Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on March 21, 2010, 05:02:44 AM You two should hook up for the artwork. Maybe on can do the front the other the back or whatever. Since you'll need the tracklist, I'll send both of you a pm when I received all the files and found a sequence where it all flows and sounds good.
Again, if anyone wants another name, other than his name on this board, please tell me. His/Her username will be put in brackets behind the name of the song Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Don't Back Down on March 21, 2010, 07:46:50 AM Rocker: Sounds good man!
I'd like to do the front artwork if that's okay with you ESQ Editor since I've already started on designs. Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: DSamore on March 22, 2010, 04:20:20 AM Just got the message- sorry! I'm down to submit the '"Til I Die"

Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on March 30, 2010, 10:25:49 AM Just a reminder:
Tomorrow is the last day you can send me your files for this particular project. After I got all the files, I will try to get a good sequence on them and then I will send the tracklist to Don't Back Down so that he and ESQEditor can fill in the tracklists to their artwork(s). When I get the ok from the artwork-front, we can more or less at the same time upload our files into this thread Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Rocker on April 02, 2010, 07:34:38 AM Ok, I got all the stuff and made a tracklist. Now the artwork gets done and we will post the download-links on sunday.

Title: Re: SS.net tribute project Post by: Don't Back Down on April 18, 2010, 01:30:31 PM And here is the art! I hope you all like it. If not it can always be changed. I wanted a "sketch" feel to the cover so it's supposed to look like this.
