I actually heard his version just before I heard the original and got into Pet Sounds. It kind of primed me for pet Sounds as I was a big Pixies fan and thought if they're covering songs from PS it must be a cool album! His version sounds ancient now. Funny how these things date.

I did not understand the connection between punk and alternative rock and the pop music I was weaned on until I heard that song. It was like a giant light bulb went off in my head.
