Title: beachboysband.com
Post by: Jonas on July 26, 2009, 05:40:50 PM
Headed over there today to see if they're coming anywhere around here soon (they aren't :() but I did notice this little tidbit:

Quote
THE ORIGINAL FOUNDING MEMBERS OF THE BEACH BOYS ARE ...
Mike Love / Brian Wilson / Alan Jardine /
Carl Wilson (Deceased) / Dennis Wilson (Deceased) /
David Marks (1962 - '63 & 1998 -'99) /
Bruce Johnston (1965 - 1971 & 1979 to present)

Since when was Bruce considered an original founding member?

Well, they did include David too; David was there a few years earlier, Bruce was around for much longer.

It's not entirely accurate, but it's close enough to include the people most famously associated with being in the group. I don't see much harm in it.

No mention of Blondie or Ricky? Typical.

That era of the Beach Boys doesn't count....apparently

Well, I'd consider David a "founding" member because he was infact there since the beginning. I mean, he was friends with them, and did those grueling tours before they were really anybody. Idk, seeing as he was a childhood friend, and being a part of the "gang" I'd give David as much credit of a founding member as Al...maybe I'm way off base, I dont know. Either way, I'm just a bit baffled over Bruce on there...only because of the word "founding" was included there...

It's not like they don't make it obvious that Bruce wasn't there from the beginning.

I agree. Though Bruce isnt a "founding" member, he has alot more to do with the BB's then David. Just a wrong choice of words I guess.

Somebody's gonna get a Jon Stebbins response...

Just a joke. Jon, who as you probably know wrote books about both David Marks and Dennis Wilson, tends to vociferously defend them. You could say Brian was a more important Beach Boy than one of them and half-expect a response from him. (And that, Mr. Stebbins, is a joke. FYI. But it does give me an idea. See new post in your thread.)
