Title: Van Dyke Parks Question
Post by: The Heartical Don on June 23, 2009, 07:16:22 AM
Is there anyone here who knows his Datsun commercial music? And how I can obtain it?

Cheers in advance.

Was only released on the Warner Loss Leader double Promo LP: "The 1969 Warner/Reprise Songbook) (PRO 331). It's a synthesizer piece timed 0:58 (Side 2, track 5)

Pretty much in the same style is his "Music For Ice Capades TV commercials" on "The 1969 Warner-Reprise Record Show or Son of Songbook" (PRO 336) (Side 3, track 4) Time: 2:00.

I can recommend these Warner/Reprise samplers - a lot of great stuff on there. They were sold for $ 2 then, now they are about $ 20-30 on ebay.

I actually have a couple records with order forms for Loss Leaders records on the inside paper sleeves...I've always wondered if they'd still send me something if I mailed the form in!!! :lol :lol

Fortunately I own a copy of this Warner sampler from 1969. It also feature"Sunny Goodge Street" by Tom Northcutt, a fine old Donovan tune that got some airplay in the Bay Area.

If you happen to send it to a guy with a sense of humour, you might actually get something... put 'there's no expiration date on the offer, and I have a good lawyer' in your request.
