:lol :lol :lol :lol Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: The infamous Baldwin Organ on May 29, 2009, 02:35:34 PM As bad as this is, at least it sounds like Brian was genuinely enjoying himself (whatever was left of himself at that point, that is).
Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: hypehat on May 29, 2009, 02:50:53 PM that never, ever fails to make me cry/laugh/have an out-of-body experience. It's probably the worst rap song i've ever heard, bar none. >:( :o :'(
Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: the captain on May 29, 2009, 04:21:00 PM I have nothing against Smart Girls. For that matter, neither it, Wipeout nor Speed Turtle would rank among my bottom 25 in BW-written or -performed songs.
Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: Wrightfan on May 29, 2009, 04:47:02 PM I have a man crush on this song :lol
Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: Jason on May 29, 2009, 05:23:01 PM I like the original version of the song without the samples. Of course, whoever wrote the lyrics is a fucking genius.
Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: MBE on May 29, 2009, 06:20:38 PM I can't take that song. I really dislike SI
Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: jeffcdo on May 29, 2009, 07:02:55 PM I agree I kinda like this song especially the version without the samples...it's funny, it's supposed to be funny.
Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: Bubba Ho-Tep on May 29, 2009, 10:14:56 PM I think it's rather clever.
Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: Andrew G. Doe on May 30, 2009, 02:43:44 AM To say it sucks is an insult to sucky things. Brian did it because the 1990 version of "mywifeandmanagers" told him to... and he sounds like that because he's pumped full of speed. The concept and implementation are abhorrent to me.
That said, the first few lines are pretty fun. Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: A Million Units In Jan! on May 30, 2009, 03:48:29 AM The most disturbing thing of all? That picture on youtube :o

Brian did it because the 1990 version of "mywifeandmanagers" told him to... and he sounds like that because he's pumped full of speed. The concept and implementation are abhorrent to me. He sounds so off or messed up it's really sad. Some say the cocaine tapes are too raw but Brian (to me) sounded pretty creative overall singing with some emotion. The Landy era Brian..l by 1990 he was cutting VERY bad material and he seemed like he was incuring some serious damage.Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: Alex on May 30, 2009, 10:28:20 AM Now everybody sing along!! "My name is Brian/and I'm the man/I write hit songs with the wave of my hand..." :lol

That said, the first few lines are pretty fun. Landy was giving him speed? I know that Gary Usher said that Brian was receiving shots of something call "suppliment a". I am guessing that was it. Why would Landy do this. Was he trying to kill Brian? Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: Andrew G. Why would Landy do this. Was he trying to kill Brian? This is a gross oversimplification, but essentially Landy, 2nd time around, kept Brian docile with thorazine then topped him up with speed when he was required to 'perform', be it live, in the studio or for interviews. I've been told this by enough folk to accept it's true. And whatever the intent, yes, it did damn nearly kill him. Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Landy makes me sick :smash I don't know if he was trying to kill him, I just think he was trying to show "hey look everyone Brian is back and happy again". But yes whatever the intent I still hate Landy. >:( Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: Joy B on June 09, 2009, 12:13:00 PM I see that the YouTube video has now been removed "due to a copyright claim by Brother Records Inc". Does BRI have the rights to "Smart Girls" and BW's work from that era? This is just a simple, honest question. I'm an innocent and sensitive soul and this is one of my first posts here so don't shoot me down!!
Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: lance on June 10, 2009, 01:03:35 PM I give kudos to Brian for trying something remarkably different and also something clearly meant as humorous...but it just doesnt work for me. Im glad it's out there, as it is kind of interesting, but in the end I would put it in the 'interesting experiment that didn't really work' box.
As off-the-wall silly songs go, the aforementioned Speed Turtle works much better for me. Did he write that? It sounds like Baker Man and seems almost deliberately to be sending up the old Wilson/Christian songs. Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Any business deal Landy had regarding them has been long voided. Oh, and welcome aboard! :) Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Post by: Andrew G. Oh, and welcome aboard! :) As I recall, the original copyright to this stuff was Beach Bum/Beachead... but given the settlement to get Landy's name off the credits, it's possible they've reverted to BRI. Hi Joy - see you at Guilfest ? Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded! Like I've been saying for years - all the major BB/BW MBs are monitored on a daily basis by interested parties. Long suspected it, and had it confirmed some time ago. S'fun tho' isn't it - I mean, who's "listening in", and what are they hoping we'll post? Having Smart Girls taken off YouTube seems a bit trivial when it's common knowledge that there're at least three versions of the entire Sweet Insanity album out there, pressed on silver disc. The Official Lurkers must be hoping for bigger and better booty than that. Maybe they expect Brad Elliot to come on here and brag about his Dumb Angel test mix reel... :ahh :spin :happydance Come to think of it, Andrew, ever thought about uploading your Remember the Zoo acetates on YouTube? Monitoring mb's for illegal content on youtube seems a little roundabout, no? Which one of you is it, then? My moneys on The Don ;D Title: Re: The greatest song Brian Wilson ever recorded!
