I'm very glad you're still with us, but - man - this really sucks. Hold on, Steve, I hope that you and your wife (and father) can get things back on track again. Title: Re: total loss.... Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: Bicyclerider on May 17, 2009, 03:20:32 PM Having lived through Katrina, I came to the realization that houses can be rebuilt - a lifelong collection of musical treasures (and in my case books and some art) cannot be replaced. I sympathize and hope insurance will cover most of the losses - they should in the case of lightning/fire. Good luck.
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: MBE on May 17, 2009, 03:31:25 PM I feel terrible about this Steve. After you get settled email me an address and I will be happy to send you a few doubles I own if that will help you get through this time. The important thing is that you and your family are still here.
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: Surfer Joe on May 17, 2009, 03:37:25 PM Horrible news- my thoughts and prayers will be with you both. Please do keep us posted.
It'd be an honor and a pleasure to help you rebuild that Beach Boys collection if we can get an address to send to. Maybe we can get some kind of pushpinned thread here going with an inventory of what's been sent- and a moderator or a volunteer can hold it for delivery. I'd like to start by sending the Good Vibrations box set, which it happens I can get a good deal on new. If someone can improve on this idea- the logistics, etc.- please do. Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: Scott on May 17, 2009, 03:37:47 PM Thank God you are ok!
So so sorry to hear this Scott Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: Jay on May 17, 2009, 04:26:40 PM Steve, I'm really sorry to hear about this. The important thing is that you and your family are ok and safe. I'm sorry to hear about you losing your collection. Surfer Joe has a good idea with us all pitching in. I think we all could help you out when you need it. :) Hopefully the moderators won't censor us to much considering the circumstances.
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: TdHabib on May 17, 2009, 05:01:34 PM Very sorry to hear this
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: grillo on May 17, 2009, 05:25:47 PM Happy to chip in or help in any way possible. Very glad to hear you folks are safe. Best of luck.
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: GoofyJeff on May 17, 2009, 06:24:27 PM OMG Steve.... I can't even begin to imagine what you're going thru right now. As others have mentioned, the important thing is you and your family survived. Hang in there my friend, and know that we're all here for ya. :'(
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: Amy B. on May 17, 2009, 07:30:11 PM Oh my God, Steve-- that's just awful. I'm glad you and your wife are okay. Obviously that's the most important thing. But what a shock to lose everything. I wish I had something in the way of memorabilia to send and help rebuild some of your collection.
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: The Heartical Don on May 18, 2009, 01:02:44 AM This is shite to the n-th degree. I can only imagine what this must be like, Steve. I don't want to sound narcissistic in the slightest, but this is one of my own worst secret fears. May you find enough consolation here, there and everywhere to make it through all of this in some bearable way.
As prior posters remarked: it puts things into perspective for all of us. May God be with you and yours. THD. Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: phirnis on May 18, 2009, 04:54:52 AM :( All the best to you
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: donald on May 18, 2009, 08:04:05 AM Steve......I'm speechless.....I just read this........So glad you are OK. Check my pm....
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: Mark A. Moore on May 18, 2009, 03:04:01 PM Unbelievabe . . . scary stuff.
Hang in there . . . M. Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: Steve Mayo on May 18, 2009, 05:27:36 PM thank every one for the kind words and support. we are ok but have nothing at the moment.
i can't even think right now. but i wanted to say thank you all. it helps....... Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: GLarson432 on May 18, 2009, 09:02:20 PM I want to follow up on a post earlier in this discussion. While this is low on Steve's priority list right now, I'm sure, we should begin collecting Beach Boys' music to replace what was lost. Original boots, if any, are gone forever of course. Official music can be replaced over time. Hopefully we can help.
My life is too hectic right now and I'm too unorganized to be efficient but is there anyone out there (in the States makes sense) that would be willing to coordinate such a collection of material that could, ultimately, be forwarded on to Steve when the time is right? Someone that would keep track of what's in hand and what isn't so that he doesn't have 14 versions of Anthology but nothing of the 8 discs of PS SOT/Unsurpassed Masters? Someone with the time and gumption to take on such a project? These could be collected and then forwarded when the time is right for Steve. Of course, DVD materials, legal or otherwise, would be welcomed by the recipient I'm sure. G Title: Re: total loss.... Like MBE, Surfer Joe, Jay and GLarson, I'm playing with this idea (these ideas) as well. Will get back on it, so hold these thoughts! Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: donald on May 19, 2009, 06:03:47 AM Maybe we could each pick a recording or group of recordings. One could do the first half of SOT, one the second half, one could do Get the Boot, etc. How we get them to him is another question. This is delicate due to the underground nature of the material. Needs to be organized through a series of pms. I live fairly close to Steve and could actually hand deliver discs. I have some material actually provided to me by Steve and some from GL and some others I could share. There are, of course, ways to electronically send music files.
Mrs. Mayo was heavy into Michael Bolten as I recall and I'll bet she would enjoy some of that if anyone has some. Just damn near impossible to imagine where to start helping someone who has lost everything. Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: Eric Aniversario on May 19, 2009, 09:15:55 AM How horrible. I'm very sorry to hear this. I will be praying for your situation. If you PM me your address, I can send you some stuff. Small consolation, I know, but I hope it will help cheer you up during this difficult time.
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: metal flake paint on May 20, 2009, 02:00:43 AM I'm very saddened to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: b00ts on May 20, 2009, 09:49:50 AM Count me in, as well. I'll be happy to throw in some money or vinyl records.
Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: TonyW on May 21, 2009, 12:48:10 PM Man, that is so horrible ... sorry to hear of your troubles Steve.
I have double ups of some books that I'd happily donate to the cause. Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: adamghost on May 21, 2009, 01:33:56 PM What a horrible thing to have happen. I know a little about random horrible stuff hitting your family out of the blue, and I just can't imagine this.
Count me in to help out however I can. I have a few things I could pass on. Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: petsite on May 22, 2009, 01:21:12 PM This just makes me physically hurt reading this. What a horrible thing to happen. Its great that you are ok. Things can be replaced (mostly) but people certainly can't. But when the shock wears off, it will be awful that some of your memories are gone. Having had to evacuate several times for hurricanes, I leave alot here at my house. But my BB/BW CDs and tapes all go into three rubbermaid bins and make the trip with me. I would be lost without them.
Keep us updated! Bob Title: Re: total loss.... Post by: matt-zeus on May 22, 2009, 03:09:00 PM Horrendous chain of events, but at least you are alive. I can certainly pitch in with everyone else on the music front.
