Title: The Beatles' relation to Spector Post by: punkinhead on April 27, 2009, 04:07:14 PM Anyone find it wierd that Spector worked with the Beatles? (besides on Let it Be) but in solo stuff? You'd think he woulda worked with the BB/BW sometime in his career besides Dont hurt my Little Sister....But it was obvious the boys loved covering Spector's tunes and sounds, wouldn't it be great to hear a SPector tune with the Boys' voices? even though that's what we get with Then I kissed Her, Why Do Fools Fall in Love?, I can Hear Music, etc. Just thoughts to ponder :p
Title: Re: The Beatles' relation to Spector Post by: lance on April 28, 2009, 12:17:27 AM I find it weird that the Beatles worked with him as a group (on Let It Be) but not so weird that George and John worked with him solo. And I don't find it weird that Brian never worked with him, either. After all Brian is better and Phil was too intimidating for Brian.
Title: Re: The Beatles' relation to Spector Post by: the captain on April 28, 2009, 07:19:09 PM Well, they didn't really work with him as a group. It's not as if he was ever in the studio with the band producing them in the traditional sense. He got tapes. He worked on tapes. He returned tapes.
Title: Re: The Beatles' relation to Spector Post by: punkinhead on April 28, 2009, 08:33:38 PM yeah, that's true i reckon...what if they gave a BB album for Spector to produce, because Brian was too out of it?

Title: Re: The Beatles' relation to Spector Post by: the captain on April 29, 2009, 03:33:44 PM anything could improve 15 Big Ones ;D Except replacing it with any of the Beach Boys albums that followed it (Love You excepted). Title: Re: The Beatles' relation to Spector Post by: phirnis on April 30, 2009, 04:17:41 AM anything could improve 15 Big Ones ;D I seriously don't think so. It's far from perfect due to its apparent cheesiness and still it sounds and feels like a true BW production. There's lots of little touches only Brian Wilson could have come up with. Listen to Had To Phone Ya's backing track and then ask yourself again if an outside producer really could have done the job that much better. Title: Re: The Beatles' relation to Spector Post by: punkinhead on April 30, 2009, 01:56:11 PM that's true...but speaking of Had to Phone Ya, did he produce the American Spring version? I like that quirky version as well

While the Spring version does indeed sound unfinished (yet very charmingly so), I could do without the endless repetition of the "You - you - you - you" line robbing the 15 Big Ones version of a bit of its musical power. |
