Title: 10,000 years Post by: Rocker on April 01, 2009, 10:57:59 AM I hope this wasn't discussed before, if so, I apologize.
This song always fascinated me since I heard Dennis' backing track on a boot. I also heard Mike's recent version from MLNW and I wondered if anyone knows how exactly this song came to be written. Did Dennis write the music and brought it to Mike? Was it written around the same time as "Pacific ocean blues"? And does a Dennis- or Beach Boys-version with vocals exist? Title: Re: 10,000 years Post by: Jon Stebbins on April 01, 2009, 11:33:58 AM Remnants of this song became the intro for Friday Night on POB, and I also think Album Tag Song on Bambu evolved from 10,000 Years.

Now that you mention it, I seem to remember a thread about this during the time of POB's re-release. have to check it out. But you don't happen to know of any recorded vocals back then and Mike's involvement, do you? Title: Re: 10,000 years Post by: Alan Boyd on April 01, 2009, 02:37:49 PM There's a tape in the Beach Boys archive, a three-part backing track, on "!0,000 Years" that apparently dates back to the sessions for a project that eventually led to "15 Big Ones." The first part of "10,000 Years" was later reworked and became the musical foundation for the song "Are You Real?" on the Bambu compilation. The rest of "10.000 Years" derived from an older Dennis recording from 1974 logged as "Dennis' Symphony," which eventually became "Friday Night," including an outtake section of the latter song that didn't make the final edit on "Pacific Ocean Blue."
Bit of a jigsaw puzzle there... Title: Re: 10,000 years Post by: Rocker on April 01, 2009, 03:39:46 PM Thanks for the infos guys !
Title: Re: 10,000 years Post by: Rocker on April 09, 2009, 04:55:45 PM I just thought about this again. So is Mike's soloversion on his still unreleased "Mike Love not war"-album probably a way that a Beach Boys's version would've sounded like if it was released on 15 Big Ones or around that time. Or am I completely jig-sagged now myself...? :3d :lol
