Title: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: matt-zeus on March 28, 2009, 03:07:54 AM Hello, I'm getting married in a month or so and am going to be using some mid 60s BB backing tracks - mostly Pet Sounds ones - as some of the music in my ceremony (it's not a church wedding so I can get away with it!).
The semi-classical feel of the music seems to suit the mood of the day and I assume that others here may have used BB music in their weddings and wondered what tracks were chosen? I might even use the 15BO rendition of 'Chapel of love' to amuse me! ;D Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: the captain on March 28, 2009, 06:09:23 AM Hey Little Tomboy.
Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: Sheriff John Stone on March 28, 2009, 07:27:17 AM I DJ on weekends, do a lot of wedding receptions, and always try to work-in Beach Boys' songs. I don't know if you have the CD, Friends by Trio Rococo (cello, harp, flute), but there are three or four nice wedding-type songs on there, including "Wouldn't It Be Nice", ""God Only Knows", "Good Vibrations", and even "Friends". Or, you could play a couple of songs from Stack O' Tracks.
Of course, for dinner music, "God Only Knows", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "Don't Worry, Baby", and "You're So Good To Me" are nice. I've even played "Kokomo" and "California Girls"; people will bop their heads and sing along to them. It is very difficult to dance to most Beach Boys' songs; they just don't have a dance beat. Sometimes I can get away with "Surfin' USA", "Dance Dance Dance", and, believe it or not, "409". So, I stick to slow stuff. Depending on the crowd, you can slow dance to "Surfer Girl", "Kiss Me Baby", and "Only With You". Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: matt-zeus on March 28, 2009, 10:27:38 AM Thanks for the answers, I thought about 'Only with you' maybe when there's some ballads playing and yes it is hard to dance to a lot of Beach Boys songs, most of the dancey stuff will be 70s and 80s pop I think!
'Hey little tomboy' will not be getting an airing on this occasion.... Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: sofonanm on March 28, 2009, 10:45:22 AM "Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)"
"Let's Go Away For Awhile" Save "Fire" for a potential divorce. >:D Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: phirnis on March 28, 2009, 12:27:56 PM We'll Run Away, one of my very favourite album cuts from the early days. When it comes to the wedding topic I can take it or leave it, but the lead vocal's just beyond beautiful.

Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: adamghost on March 30, 2009, 01:45:54 AM I suggest "Summer of Love." It's one of their most romantic and philosophical songs, particularly the "do unto" part.
Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: matt-zeus on March 30, 2009, 08:29:08 AM Well thankyou for all the varied and interesting replies!!
I've concoted some kind of Pet Sounds suite for beforehand (waiting for the brides entrance) using some software I have so it all segues into each other nicely and builds up the tension.... I've been doing the disco too, haven't got much Beach Boys in there yet though, but do have the usual Stayin Alive/Do you think i'm sexy/Dancing Queen stuff going on. Managing to squeeze in some more interesting numbers too like Bowie's 'Magic Dance' from Labyrinth! Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: Dr. Tim on March 30, 2009, 10:15:44 AM It's good to have "God Only Knows" in the mix but it isn't a good "first dance" song. As my wife astutely pointed out, the second verse is about the guy thinking of killing himself if his love ever left him -- not exactly the image you want to convey. Also she didn't like the first line: "I may not always love you." Then what's the point?! (She knows the lyric is deeper than that but her point was it's a bad first impression)
Surprised no one's mentioned "Disney Girls." Yeah it's a Bruce song, but it's one of his best, and the ladies love it. Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: Matt H on March 30, 2009, 12:42:49 PM My Mom and I danced the Mother/Son Dance to "I Wish For You" off the Beckley, Lamm, Wilson album.

Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: melissalynn on March 30, 2009, 04:41:20 PM I had 'Forever' and 'God Only Knows' played at my reception. :)
Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: matt-zeus on April 09, 2009, 04:27:50 AM Well I ended up compiling my Beach Boys Suite for the ceremony, I was going to have GOK (instrumental) as the background music to signing the wedding register, but the registrar - who will be conducting the ceremony - took exception to this saying that there couldn't be any 'religious' music in the ceremony. I argued that a) It's not a religious song and b) This version is instrumental so no one will even hear the word 'God' but they wouldn't budge.
In retrospect I could have called it anything on my tracklist and they wouldn't have been any the wiser except the Registrar (a woman in her 60s) did seem to know the Beach Boys catalogue (Apparently 'Lady Lynda' is also banned due to the Bach excerpt - who'd have that anyway?!), so if i'd tried to sneak it in she might have recognised it and had us arrested or something! :o For the bride coming up the aisle we are having 'You still believe in me' (instrumental) - the tempo and the feel work beautifully! Title: Re: Beach Boys wedding songs Post by: Menace Wilson on April 09, 2009, 08:53:20 AM When my wife and I got married, we used the Hawthorne, CA version of "Devoted To You" during the candle lighting ceremony. It was perfect, even had the pastor on the verge of tears. ;D
