holy friggin' HIPPOS my internet connexion BLOWS right now. i literally waited 15 minutes for this page to load so i could make a new topic. :smash

anyway, you all might've seen this on youtube but it's worth making a thread about, if there isn't one already. no way in hell i'm going to dare loading two pages at once right now. the world might end.

the polly tones - do BWPS versions of SMiLE up to Cabinessence. i messaged them recently and they said they'll be working on some of the rest (hopefully the whole thing) within the next few months, so make sure you bookmark their page if you like it and keep an ear out.

it's amazing what a single guitar and a few voices can do with these songs. it has a real campfire vibe to it without sacrificing any of the beauty of the songs. i'm going to find a program to rip audio from youtube once my internet connection has stopped playing grandma because i like their performance that much ...

actually... listening to this makes me wish the beach boys did a Smiley version in a similar vein of these songs. it would've been great.

I have come across this on Youtube and loved it.  Then I searched in vain for the rest of the album.  Great to hear they might put out the rest of it (but I must caution them, it may take 40 years and they may all go crazy!)  Ghosts in the chords.

I also love their version of the Americana movement, and listened to it again and again for days when I first heard it. There's something quite perfect about the acoustic treatment and their scandinavian accents - gives it a sort of indie credibility that BWPS lacks. I emailed them a few months back enquiring as to if they were going to do the rest but I never heard back so I'm thrilled to hear they're planning to tackle the rest. I especially look forward to Wonderful through to Surf's up - that is bound to be lovely.

It's not available to download anywhere at the moment im afraid, it's a shame because youtube messes up the audio quality quite alot.

Anyway, check back in a month or so, and the second movement should be done :)

Unrelated: is anyone else fukking tired of those bot prevention code things everywhere? The sh*t where if you mess up your password you have to re-enter it AND type in a bunch of scrambled letters that are IMPOSSIBLE to read? I just spent ten minutes trying to access my YouTube account because of that sh*t. Makes me want to kill.

I hope there's a way for us to fear this PollyTones version in better sound quality. Maybe when they've done the whole thing they'll put it out in better quality somehow, but I guess they have to be careful with that.

Cool that you all like it. We've just finished the last part and will upload it in time for christmas.

As for better sound quality, we're thinking about maybe having a limited free download of it in mp3's since we've had some requests for that, but we'll see what happens.

Anyone know a straightforward way to convert these to MP3?

I have a plugin for Firefox that does it automatically.  Don't know if it works with IE.  I'll find out what it is and let you know, if someone else doesn't beat me to it!

I too would love to figure out how to convert these Polly Tones Smile tracks to MP3.  I want them on my iPod.  Such great performances, brings out a whole other side of the music!  I was thinking I would have to try to record them off of youtube.  Also, I would gladly buy a CD if you were selling it someplace--would love to support some great art like this.

It's been awhile since I used it, but anytime you're on a site that has a video or audio feed running...it "saves it."  You just click on the little three-colored icon (which gets installed on your toolbar or something, you can't miss it...) and it shows in a drop-down all the "files" that exist.

I think you have the option to save them...or something of the sort.  But it was easy.  I have it at home, not at work...but I'll install it (if I can) and see if I can get it to work.  In this case, we really just want the audio...so I don't know how this will work.

The other option is to just mute all other sounds -- open a cheap recording software -- and record the audio.  Not too high-tech and rather labor intensive...but that will work.

big Brother Records took these songs down from youtube. These covers were incredible and I've not listened to them for AGES.

Does anyone have an MP3 copy they'd be willing to share via sendspace or something?

Sorry if this is a breach in the terms here - just delete this post if so. But considering it's just a cover that the Polly Tones did for fun I don't see the harm (nor do I understand why Brother Records had it taken off youtube in the first place).

Long time reader, first time poster to these boards.

Booted up an old laptop the other day and found full mp3 files of all of the PollyTones Cover Smile songs. I must have ripped them from Youtube years ago and completely forgot about it.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post a direct link, but let's just say I believe if you search for this album on Youtube it should come up in all its glory!
