Title: Estelle Bennett. Slightly o/t
Post by: Pretty Funky on March 25, 2009, 06:20:33 PM
Just read in the latest Rolling Stone that Estelle Bennett, one third of The Ronettes, and sister of Ronnie Spector passed away last month from colon cancer. Seemed to have slipped under the radar.
The small story said she had mental health issues that most, aside from family, were aware of and had often lived on the street after the group split in 1966.
For those who watched their induction to the Hall of Fame a few years back may remember her only appearing at the end of their set and questions were asked why. Now we know she had her problems. Sad.

Yeah I heard about it when it happened and so sad. I'm seeing Ronnie at the Beatles fest this weekend.

It's very unfortunate. I had posted this story what seems like a really long time ago on Brian Wilson's message board when it was brand new news. The NME website had the article up for seriously about 5 minutes, and I just happened to catch it.

I'm surprised to hear about the mental health claims; that helps make sense out of the hall of fame situation, but it's the first I've ever heard of it.

My mistake.

 'Aware' should have read 'unaware'.

 Nobody aside from family knew.
