Title: Cool, Cool Water 45rpm Single
Post by: Shane on March 13, 2009, 11:11:21 PM
About six months ago, a record collector friend of mine (who isn't much into 45s) let me go through a mini-storage he purchased on the cheap.  There were thousands upon thousands of 45s in there.  I found some nice stuff, but I halfway ignored a Beach Boys Brother label single that I put in my stack to take.  I figured it wasn't any big deal, just something I picked up to fill a hole in my collection.

I just realized the other night that this single, Cool Cool Water/Forever, is the rarest Brother label 45, sometimes fetching over $300.  What's the deal with this 45?  I know that Beach Boys singles weren't selling well circa 1970, but there are quite a few others (such as the Add Some Music 45) that are worth only five bucks or so.

Add Some Music hit the top 70 and had a lot of copies pressed. Cool, Cool, Water didn't hit and thus most of the copies were promos. I think because of the short mix it's also more valued by collectors.

Although pretty rare (I found a VG stock copy for $3 not long ago)  I would say the Surf's Up 45 is harder to find.
