Title: Vintage Smile session photos Post by: Jay on March 01, 2009, 08:02:31 PM I was just wondering, does anybody have any pictures from the last few Smile sessions from May 1967? I was just wondering if you can tell in the pictures that things were starting to "go wrong". I mean, does Brian seem upset or fustrated?

I was just wondering if you can tell in the pictures that things were starting to "go wrong". I mean, does Brian seem upset or fustrated? There are some photos from the "Da-Da" sessions. If I recall, Brian is sporting a bit more facial hair, but that's the only difference. In the session tapes from those dates, he sounds a little more gleeful, or "zany" if you will...like "Take ONE!" in a somewhat goofy, zany voice. Not as serious as he normally sounds. Don't know if that really means anything, though. Title: Re: Vintage Smile session photos Post by: Jay on March 01, 2009, 08:14:49 PM Are any of those photos in the Beautiful Dreamer documentary? I remember seeing a few pictures on there of Brian in a beard.
Title: Re: Vintage Smile session photos Post by: Mr. Cohen on March 01, 2009, 08:50:28 PM He had more facial hair? Interesting. Could it be that facial hair was his undoing, or SMiLE's undoing? It was starting to overtake him by the end of the SMiLE sessions, apparently, and his facial hair all but killed him from the mid-70s to early-80s. Once he started shaving again, he began the slow road to recovery.

Title: Re: Vintage Smile session photos Post by: Chris Brown on March 01, 2009, 09:04:59 PM I'm almost positive that there are at least a few in LLVS, with Brian indeed sporting some gruff and looking chipper.
Title: Re: Vintage Smile session photos Post by: Shane on March 01, 2009, 10:46:02 PM Those Da-Da sessions are rather strange to listen to, as Brian calling out take numbers in that "zany" voice is pretty much the only thing we hear him say.
Title: Re: Vintage Smile session photos Post by: MBE on March 01, 2009, 11:14:47 PM I think the back of Holland is the first time I see something really wrong with Brian. One or two pictures before that but not consistently. Actuallly there is a picture in a beer hall during the euro tour in 64 where he looks like there is something wrong. It's in the Leaf book.
Title: Re: Vintage Smile session photos Post by: Mooger Fooger on March 02, 2009, 09:31:22 AM I have alot of the session photographs which, through scrounging I have obtained in their glorious vibrant colors. There is nothing which suggests any sort of friction in the latter days of Smile. :3d

That's the engineer, not Brian (and obviously not Chuck Britz). I agree. Tragedy visible. The timbre of the voice is to thick to be Brian.
