I thought Brian says Pet Sounds was his best, not his favorite.

In January of 2009 he said both that and Love You, although the question was phrased "aside from Pet Sounds."

And David Leaf HATES Love You. Literally. Proves he really doesn't get Brian.

Since Brian most probably named every then-most-recent-album his all time BBs favourite, I don't see much of a point in this question, sorry for that.

Oh, I'm very aware of that. But I wanted to make a list of albums that he actually have said are his favorite(s), not the ones that he probably have said. Btw, Don, I'm a psychology student, but so far I haven't come across the "My Friend Bob"-complex! (Looking forward to it, though!  :-D)

Man, I change my answer to this question ALL THE TIME... sometimes Sunflower, sometimes Friends (if only the darned thing was 15 minutes longer), sometimes Surf's Up, or Pet Sounds, or... I guess Brian can change his mind also...

I think he has said Friends is his favorite the most often...

In the book written by Peter Carlin, he named 15 BO and Love You both, can't remember the year in which he was interviewed but it was within the past few years.

P.290 of Catch a Wave; "That's when it all happened for me. That's where my heart lies. Love You. Jesus, that's the best album we ever made." 1998 interview.

Not very surprising, although it's interesting that both David Leaf and Jeff Foskett hate Love You...shows that Brian does still have a sense that his work is great even if some don't like it.

Jeff Foskett? So that's why they won't play any of these songs in concert...

Yep, according to AGD.  So much for that "Brian Wilson Loves You" tour.

So now they're adding songs like "Desert Drive" and "Your Imagination" to the setlist only to have Brian announce that they're going to get to the good stuff later or that he's not particularly fond of "Sail On Sailor". I say the time is ripe for "Johnny Carson" and "Solar System".

I wonder: would 'Let Us Go On This Way', or 'Roller Skating Child', or 'Love Is A Woman' really elicit an audience response? I'd think not. Although Love You is a wonderful album to this person.

You'd have to insert a "Love You" DJ-set into the middle of the show. Foskett, Bennett, all go off and have a cup of tea.

Love You as Eraserhead - an image I've never really been able to shift.

"Mona" would be short enough to be lots of fun for everyone involved and it sure wouldn't irritate anyone in the audience; "The Night Was So Young" would provoke numerous cheers from those familiar with BB records as obscure as The Beach Boys Love You; come to think of it, "Let's Put Our Hearts Together" could work pretty well as a duet between BW and Taylor Mills...

I've seen BW do "The Night Was So Young" a couple times.

The crowd would go wild if Brian did "Roller Skating Child," especially if Brian was enthusiastic...I can just see him getting into it.

"Night Was So Young" was done in 2002 and 2003...on the audience recordings I have the crowd audibly cheers.

Since they are letting Foskett do some lead vocals now, I would like to see Taylor do "He's A Doll," or "The One You Can't Have."

Or the best option of them all "Sweet Mountain."

Good idea; I think that would work well. And, after so many years of touring with Brian, it would also be nice to feature some of the band more often.

Plus it would give people a new (or at least increased) basis for complaints. The old ones get boring.

Which leads is Foskett singing? I`ve only seen Brian once (sadly when he was presumably having one of his bad days as it wasn`t a pleasant experience) but everything Foskett did annoyed me.

I wouldn`t want the other band members to sing more leads as then it becomes more of a tribute show.

I haven't seen any video footage of this.  Does Brian take an active role in the backing vocals when Jeff is singing the lead or does he sit there motionless?

He does back-ups.  He's as engaged, or not, during these numbers as any others.

I remember hearing that once, and it did sound pretty good, except Brian was singing with him down the octave, which sounded awful.

I don't go to a Brian Wilson show to hear Jeff Foskett sing. That man butchers the falsetto on the chorus of "California Girls", I am not a fan of his voice, I don't understand why he's singing at a Brian Wilson show.

i'm tempted to parody how you reply to anyone complaining about anything obvious at a certain other message board...but i'll refrain.  :3d

this thread's gotten pretty off-topic. i already knew the Love You quote, but does anyone have any other direct quotes from brian about other albums being his (then-)favorite?
