Title: The Explorers Club
Post by: Peadar 'Big Dinner' O'Driscoll on February 18, 2009, 01:25:29 PM
Ok, I know some of the guys from this group post here and I don't want to offend anyone but...

I like the record a lot and got it on vinyl last year. It also came with an mp3 download which i put on my ipod.

Anyway while it sounds fine on vinyl,  i find it almost unlistenable on the ipod. It's really shrill and loud. Is this a mastering issue?

I don't know too much about the band, but I saw some concert video on YouTube and in the info part it said they opened for Zach Galafanakis, which made me want to go out and buy all of their stuff.

Zach? Who doesn't know Zach! Bigger than Jesus, in fact.

They should be sued.

If 'Freedom Wind' was released by the Beach Boys in the mid-60s, it would go down as one of their greatest albums ever

I don't know much about the group, had never heard of them before I saw them do a gig last year as Mark Lindsay's backup band. They were great in that role, but they have since broken up.

Despite them having broken up - new single "Don't Waste Her Time" is dropping 10/29/13.

The new single is absolutely wonderful - and was co-written by Andy Paley!

The vocals are great! Don't know what to say about the orchestration, though, sounds a bit too sentimental somehow (the violins & piano excluded, they're amazing). Still, thanks for the link, EgoH! I like this band.

They perfectly capture the sound and essence of The Beach Boys on 'Freedom Wind'

These guys shouldve been brought in to produce TWGMTR.

Im sure what they would have come up with wouldve been 10x better than the sub-par album we ended up getting

There's also a video for the new single. Looks like they're not quite as dead as it appeared.

I was hard on the band back when Freedom Wind was released but I grew to like them. I enjoyed Grand Hotel much more. Too bad they have disbanded. I encourage anyone here on this board to check the band out, in particular this fan video for Weight Of The World which is incredibly poignant and sad

Disbanded? They still update their twitter and in fact they just put out a new track recently.

Also, their cover of The Beach Boys - Darlin' is awesome!

As much as I enjoy the group, I think their music videos are (to put it nicely) a little dissapointing. A group this strong deserves better. Great music though!

Sounds very 70's. I could imagine this being played on some 1975 top 40 radio station after they just finished playing Barry Manilow. :D

God, what a lame video. But the song is really cool. I loved both albums and hope they'll get together for one more.

New song from 'The Explorers Club' from their new album 'Together'

https://soundcloud.com/expclub/quietly

I love the sound of this track.

Personally, I don't care if they're just a BB's knock off - when the music is this good, its worth listening to

The album cover has a 'Friends'-ish look to it aswell.

This album has some great songs on it. Gave it a listen last week.

This group is fantastic and Jason Brewer is a very talented songwriter.  I am very much looking forward to their new album in June.  Check out this song from the upcoming album - wonderful!

Agreed. Nothing new happening here, but it will be a nice car album for the warm weather months.

I'm excited for this album. Some good sounds so far, and Wyatt Funderburk, one of the newest members, is a terrific musician. I haven't however actually listened to Freedom Wind...

Do yourself a favour

'Freedom Wind' contains some of the best music the BB's never released

I don't see them as a Beach Boys knockoff. I hear many other influences in their music, too. The one time I saw them in concert, they were backing Mark Lindsay. Sounded great playing those songs.
