He should be in the band full time (and Al too).

"Save it, he's not here......" ::) Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: mikeyj on February 18, 2009, 06:16:09 AM I'll concur and say that Dave does sound fantastic... But I've heard boots of him sing it before so I knew that he does a good job... As far as I know that means 4 band members have sung Forever in concert (Dennis, Brian, Carl and Dave)... does anyone know if they are the only members to sing it live?
Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: tpesky on February 18, 2009, 04:03:21 PM Saw Carl in 88 do a wonderful version, and I have a video of an Arizona concert with him doing it. He really should have continued to do it. I like Dave's take alot though, he has more of the rough Dennis edge.
Mike finds way to jab Dennis when hes been dead for 25 years. "Save it, here's not here" But just remember, Pacific Ocean Blue has sold fathoms more than Looking Back With Love, Bambu has been released and Love has 3 or 4 albums worth of material that he can't get released. Plus, he has to wake up everyday and realize he's Mike Love and not a Wilson brother. That's gotta be torture enough for him. True enough, but remember: while some of us may relish taking potshots at him, he is the Lovester... First off, how synonymous is his voice with most of our favorite Beach Boy songs? And second, you have to hand it to him, keeping the name & sound out there all these years. (This is a poor quality scan from years ago, but it captures how those 2 could always overcome things on stage:) (http://home.earthlink.net/~tinseltowncars/images/1__30_.JPG) Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: Exapno Mapcase on February 19, 2009, 11:54:37 AM He may be an asshole, but he's our asshole.

great performance. That's gotta be torture enough for him. Hey, Mike can be a weirdo from time to time, but I don't think he wishes he had been raised by Murry Wilson. That's just nuts. :) I don't think the joke was that bad. We always say that his audience doesn't care which Beach Boy is on stage, that they just wanna listen to the songs and have a good time. Let him make fun of the fact just like we do. At the end of the day, Mike was there and co-wrote three great songs with Dennis. That's three more than anyone here, and two more than Brother Brian, if we count 'Little Bird'. Let's cut the Lovester some slack. Dennis might have actually have found that funny. Remind me never to show you guys John Cleese's eulogy to Graham Chapman! Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: Mark A. Moore on February 22, 2009, 05:24:49 PM That was cool . . . Thanks for sharing, Jon.
I think Dave sounds a lot like Dennis there . . . and truth be told, the band did a great job on the harmonies, etc. . . . for a live recording. I really think Dave and Al should be permanent fixtures in the touring band. M. Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: joe_blow on February 22, 2009, 06:46:06 PM He did mention Dennis as his cousin, which is somthing he usually seems to reserve for Brian. He did praise the song as well, so I guess it wasn't all bad!
Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: shelter on February 23, 2009, 04:23:56 AM Yeah, seriously what the hell was with that comment? I thought it was a fairly innocent joke. Just because someone's dead doesn't mean you have to be 100% serious about him all the time. Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: Carrie Marks on February 23, 2009, 04:51:51 AM I think Dave sounds a lot like Dennis there . Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: Carrie Marks on February 23, 2009, 05:04:00 AM Yeah, seriously what the hell was with that comment? I thought it was a fairly innocent joke. Just because someone's dead doesn't mean you have to be 100% serious about him all the time. Actually, you are on to something. David and Mike were joking around with each other in the green room before they went on and if you saw what David did to Mike's tea cup, you'd know that Mike was right-on when he called him immature! ;-) But seriously, for Mike to get one in on him and Dennis in the same sentence was something that was actually a little sentimental for David...he said afterwards THAT show was the one that felt the most like the old days because of that loose brotherly banter...and in the old days, Dennis would have been giving and getting with the best of them. Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: Chris Brown on February 23, 2009, 01:49:35 PM I think Dave sounds a lot like Dennis there . Love told David the same thing after hearing him sing it for the first time...and he said it again right after this performance, too. I'm not surprised...David really captured Dennis' raw emotion in that performance. Best version I've heard (aside from the original, of course). Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: Jason on February 23, 2009, 10:41:55 PM Dave should record his own version of Forever - after what he did with You And I (and with only GUITARS and a voice) he could work wonders on that one. I also wish that he did the vocal on Holy Man but that's just me.

I also wish that he did the vocal on Holy Man but that's just me. Wow, that's a great idea. I never thought about it, but it would be GREAT to have David sing on Holy Man. I do hope he's able to become more active in related BB projects. Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: Dancing Bear on February 24, 2009, 01:48:20 PM If you don't pay too much attention, you can mistake Hawkins' vocals for Dennis' circa '72-'73. Seriously. Of course, I'd rather have Dave there. I still think BRI should dust off some unfinished tracks like 'You Got a Friend' and use Dave as lead vocalist.

Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: shelter on February 25, 2009, 07:39:32 AM I agree, Taylor sounds great on "Holy Man".
And don't forget that the fact that a Foo Fighter was willing to sing on that track probably brought the album to the attention of a whole bunch of (mostly younger) people that otherwise wouldn't even have noticed the album... For that reason, Taylor might have been a better choice than any Beach Boy or anyone close to the band could've been... The people that would've prefered David singing "Holy Man" are all Beach Boys fans and got the album anyway... Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: Jonas on February 25, 2009, 08:30:31 AM I think it wouldve brought attention to that particular song and thats it. I guess this would be a good time to check out the Foo Fighter forums and see if theres any word about Dennis' album at all....that would tell us if people are really showing interest because of the name on the vocal.
http://bbs.foofighters.com/search.php?searchid=1444760 not sure if that'll work. they're definitely fans of all things foo fighters on that forum and show interest in the song, they even posted the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNF73YSMpAI though, i dont think they really go too into the rest of dennis' stuff ;/ Title: Re: David Marks w/BB's 2008 singing Forever Post by: shelter on February 25, 2009, 12:43:26 PM Maybe it only brought attention to that one song... Maybe some people bothered to check out the rest of the album... Nevertheless, it did make quite some people aware of the excistance of some pretty good solo music by 'that guy from the Beach Boys that drowned' and that's worth something too, right? Every little bit helps.
