Title: DENNIS WILSON SMiLE Tape Post by: petsite on February 17, 2009, 11:21:02 AM So here is what I am wondering. Dennis found the Fire tapes along with several other tracks from SMiLE and put them together on one new reel he titled "The Fire Tapes". Now while he wanted to do this to A.) Make new safety dubs of these tapes and B.) put them all on one reel, I can't help but think that this is the reel Bruce Johnston may have been using as a guide when he was trying to put SMiLE tracks on LA (Light Album). He even said that Worms and Can't Wait Too Long were two tracks Jimmy wanted on that LP. And all this happened at the end of Ocotober 1978 when Bruce came back.
Just wondering. Bob Title: Re: DENNIS WILSON SMiLE Tape Post by: Bicyclerider on February 17, 2009, 12:57:54 PM It wasn't Dennis but a certain DR that put together the Fire tapes, wasn't it? For one of the researchers of the Preiss book, in 1978.
Title: Re: DENNIS WILSON SMiLE Tape Post by: petsite on February 17, 2009, 01:16:26 PM Yep it was. But Dennis found the tapes and even talked about them on a Robert W. Morgan special.
Do You Like Worms Fire (no sound effects) Fire (sound effects) Can't Wait Too Long (three pieces) Old Master Painter/You Are My Sunshine (no vocal) the so-called "false" Barnyard (which Preiss described as a section of "H&V," but which current theory seems to point to as a tag for "OMP/Sunshine") BTW, The master tape for that compilation is still in the Beach Boys' tape vault. It's a 1/4-inch tape labeled "The Fire Tapes," dated Oct. 2, 1978, and bearing a notation that it contains five songs. Title: Re: DENNIS WILSON SMiLE Tape Post by: Magic Transistor Radio on February 19, 2009, 09:27:45 AM I am not so sure that SMILE music would have fit on LA Light Album. It works all the way through the Holland album. But starting with 15 Big Ones, the BB had moved on to another sound.
Title: Re: DENNIS WILSON SMiLE Tape Post by: petsite on February 19, 2009, 09:48:32 AM My thoughts as well. But as Bruce told David Leaf at the begining of the LA Light Album project:
I have decided that I’m going to wait until Brian would really give his permission to do it. Guercio wants to open the album with “Rock Plymouth Rock/Roll” and end with “Been Way Too Long”. I wanted to make up a collage, but I want Brian to be the one to put the collage together. I can tell he still feels funny about that stuff. You know, there a lot of “SMiLE” stuff intact … |
