Post by: CMP on January 24, 2009, 12:20:36 AM Back in the 70's I used to listen to Pet Sounds only on headphones - the Duophonic one - The Japanese pressing being the best- I have all the copies on CD, PS Box set, the felt cover edition etc... I have noticed that there are little details missing here and there (i.e. I used to get a kick out of Brian yelling "STOP THE TAPE!!" in WIBN as the tempo is slowing down, after the bridge). This example apperars in NO mono CD of PS that I have heard. If the Duophonic version was created using the original mono mix then this would explain why the mono mixes on the CD's have never rang 'true' to my ears. (Did the original L.A. master have this WIBN artifact prior to it being 'damaged at Warner's??)

It was availble for like a second, but it was there!

The 4-track Reprise consumer reel for So Tough/Pet Sounds sounds better at 3.75 ips than the Capitol duophonic at 7.5 in my opinion. I am not aware of a 3.75 Capitol Pet Sounds release. ZT 2458 is the capitol number for Pet Sounds reel tape @ 7.5 ips speed; they later down-graded the speed on Pet Sounds to 3.75 ips and re-assigned number Y1T 2458. the beatles revolver album on reel tape got speed down-graded by capitol from 7.5 to 3.75 in just the same fashion back then Title: Re: Duophonic Pet Sounds created from orig.
