Title: Night Blooming Jasmine Post by: MBE on January 23, 2009, 08:24:10 AM This is one of my favorite Brian songs of the last 30 years (really) at least the original one. One questions as this isn't on Andrew's site. When was the original heard on the 88 reissue really recorded? The 1979 date seems off. I would guess it was early 81 like Stevie. He's in good voice on both of these for the era, and Stevie is also pretty good.

That's what I've always heard...Don Cunningham's Add Some Music fanzine first reported it's existence around early '82, and said it was from Fall '81, and that Dennis produced it. Brian mentioned it to Les Chan & friends in December '81, which is likely where ASM heard about it. One thought I've had is that it was recorded on a tape dated '79...possibly recycled from Tom Murphy's sessions with Dennis that year, since Tom was quoted as saying somewhere that he was the engineer on NBJ. Petsite, where did you hear (or read) that it was considered for KTSA? Other sources indicate 1981/82 during the notorious 'Cocaine Sessions'. And it was composed BEFORE Brian was (literally) under the influence of Landy. Which makes sense; don't know if he could've written something like that after....

Brian mentioned to Usher in 1986 that he had an old BB tune he wanted to work on with Usher called Night Bloomin' Jasmine. Thats how it got intermingled during the Usher sessions. |
