Title: Pet Sounds Question
Post by: Pretty Funky on November 11, 2008, 08:44:49 PM
Have listened to the PS podcast from 06 lately and in a few of the interviews, the songs have been played in part minus the vocals. Fantastic!

Has the whole album ever been available in that form?

Yuppers, the Pet Sounds Sessions Boxset.  Bliss.

I had a feeling the answer was going to cost me! :o

Never wanted to go there but may reconsider. The whole album is it?

Thanks.

Whole album, PLUS.

Mono remaster, stereo remix, track sessions in stereo, vocal tracks in stereo and some odds & ends. This is an essential part of anyone's collection.

Yeah, it really, really is worth it - years of listening and enjoyment.  eBay is your friend.

I'll third it. It's a beautiful, multi-faceted set, well worth the money.

Completely and totally worth whatever you have to pay to get it.  You will gain a whole new appreciation for the album.  The vocals only disc is worth the price of admission alone.  I actually need a new copy, I've worn out the CDs I have now.

That's the one reason I want a Smile boxset - to get all the tracks (officially) without the vocals.  I've made my own CDr of Smile tracks, and it's amazing!

I also vote the PS boxset as a must have.

The all-Brian vocal snippet is quite amazing too.

I never knew that was all Brian. That snippet is stunning.

Also worth getting just for Caroline No at the correct speed.

True, although I still find it to be too slow at the correct speed.  Probably just a result of having heard the album version all these years, but its still a bit jarring to me.

Hey thanks for the replies. Consider it on my Christmas list.

You can always correct the pitch yourself with any pitch-changing effect plugin in an audio editing program.

"Also worth getting just for Caroline No at the correct speed."

Wouldn't that be Caroline No at the uncorrected speed?

Personal highlights: "Wouldn't it be Nice" with backing vocals only, "That's Not Me" rehearsal,
Brian's studio discussion of "How to Speak Hip" album, string backing for "Don't Talk".

Priceless. 8)
