Amazing Grace also has IV ... (in "how sweet the sound")

I think you could omit the IV and get away with it........... :)

You could just stay on the I. I must admit it is hard to resist that IV!......I think I'll have to agree with you.

Most good harmonizations of Amazing Grace have a lot more than two chords.

I say hit the beginners hard.  At least 24 chords per song.

Yes. Start them off with "Aja" or "Black Cow."

I believe "This Old Man" uses I and V exclusively.

I'm sure something from Van Morrison does... off Astral Weeks... "Cyprus Avenue", "Madame George" maybe?  Don't have them nearby to check, but they are arguably only two chords...

Failing that,

Surf's Up

Well, I can't think of any off the top of my head, but there are probably at least 100 Brian Wilson songs that use either primarily or only I and IV.

How so?  Yes, for variation, on the verse it switches the emphasis to I and IV...but, still, it only uses C7 and F.  ONLY...TWO...CHORDS!  This song is a work of genius; if any track should be included, it should be "Dream Baby" for its ingenious use of...TWO...CHORDS!  TWO CHORDS!

There have to be some hip-hop songs with only I and V.

::thinking::

But, come on...Why can't this thread be "songs with only two chords five semi-tones apart, ie. F and C"?  That would mean a slower death to this already dying thread.  No offense intended.

See, I would actually almost go so far as to call the change to F7 in Dream Baby a key change.  It's a very neat chord change, I just don't believe that it functions harmonically as the I chord in that situation.

When you can think of a worthy list of songs that ONLY uses I and V, dig me up and dust me off; you might be looking for a while.

Okay, I don't really know that notation system, but "Heroin" is made up of two chords five semitones apart C-F, as far as I can tell.

Let me say that some of these songs can be song like a chant  and the IV can be avoided. But it sounds really weak.
