Title: BBs changes from 65-73 Post by: Magic Transistor Radio on July 25, 2008, 07:37:00 PM Has there ever been a band that has flipped and flopped as much as the Beach Boys in style and direction from one album to the next? Everything up to SD/SN made a lot of sense. Then you get this illogical proggression...
Party ... Pet Sounds ... Smiley Smile ... Wild Honey ... Friends ... 20/20 ... Sunflower ... Surfs Up ... So Tough ... Holland Many bands have gone through a change, but has any other band changed from one album to the next like this?! I like all of these albums, but its no wonder they didn't survive commercially through those years. Title: Re: BBs changes from 65-73 Post by: MBE on July 25, 2008, 09:07:03 PM Really these rapid changes are what made them such a great group. I love the early stuff, but the music from Pet Sounds to Holland is just as amazing.

And you could probably add 15 Big Ones to that progression... Title: Re: BBs changes from 65-73 Post by: MBE on July 26, 2008, 04:42:58 PM Not as severe.
Title: Re: BBs changes from 65-73 Post by: John on July 26, 2008, 04:59:42 PM Pink Floyd?
Wish You Were Here - Animals - The Wall - The Final Cut? Title: Re: BBs changes from 65-73 Post by: ♩♬🐸 Billy C ♯♫♩🐇 on July 26, 2008, 05:22:37 PM Hell, just the change alone from Piper & Saucerful to what came afterwards is a big leap.

just the contrast between the banana album and White Light/White Heat then from there they make a gentle folk album! The best!!!! Title: Re: BBs changes from 65-73 Post by: MBE on July 26, 2008, 05:50:57 PM The Rolling Stones from 65-68 changed a lot.
Out Of Our Heads Aftermath Between The Buttons Satanic Majesties Begger's Sadly every album from then on would sound the same more or less. Dylan 66-69 Blonde On Blonde Basement Tapes John Wesley Nashville Skyline Beatles 65-69 Help Rubber Soul Revolver Sgt Pepper White Album I think music changed much quicker from 62-72 then ever before or since. Still again I think the Beach Boys varied the most. Title: Re: BBs changes from 65-73 Post by: BiNNS on July 26, 2008, 07:03:01 PM Silverchair! I know not too many North American's listen to them anymore, but they continue to drastically change their sound which each new release. It's pretty exciting.

They're also fans of Brian. Title: Re: BBs changes from 65-73 Post by: Magic Transistor Radio on July 27, 2008, 10:11:10 PM I think that the Beatles/Stones/Floyd did change a lot, but they were in a more logical proggression IMO.
