Title: In Bloom Post by: jmc on June 25, 2008, 01:39:35 PM I haven't been able to track down In Bloom's website to see if there are any comments/announcements etc. about the POB re-release and just simply to see what's new with them. Did they disband?
For those not aware, In Bloom is a three piece band that includes Justyn Wilson (Carl's son) and Carl Wilson (Dennis's son). Title: Re: In Bloom Post by: Jon Stebbins on June 25, 2008, 03:05:33 PM Don't know if they are a band anymore...but Carl B., Mario, and Justyn were all there at the POB/Bambu release party last Wed. night at Michael Wilson's restaurant in L.A. It was an extremely fun evening!
Title: Re: In Bloom Post by: Howie Edelson on June 30, 2008, 08:01:28 PM They were a great band. I probably saw them a dozen times, mainly at 14 Below in Santa Monica. They really missed their moment by playing the same club over and over again to (seemingly) the same small group of family and friends. I caught them at Dragonfly on Melrose too. They never put any time in on the road to snag a following and they never played around enough in LA to cause a buzz -- but they were ALWAYS incredibly tight and always peppering their sets with new tunes. They got a song from their album on a soundtrack -- and then nada. They played SF once. That was their "tour."
I remember their message board was always filled with middle-aged female BB fans from Europe asking them inane questions about about sports which Carl B. always responded to politely. Justyn and Mario are really talented guys, but Carl B. could be another Stewart Copeland. A really intelligent drummer. Powerful, fast -- but really smart. It was always a great show. Their appearance at the last CWF benefit that I caught wasn't indicative of what they could do in a club. They should've gone for it. |
