Title: Jan & Dean - Command Performances Post by: Rocker on June 25, 2008, 07:07:50 AM Sorry to start another J&D-thread but I thought this should be on it's own. My questio is, how much of said album was actually recorded live?

The other tunes were recorded live in Sacramento doctored in the studio probably the same way as the BB 1964 Concert album.

I wondered because some of the vocals sound like they were double-tracked. Not to talk about how "un-live" some of the tracks sound (e.g. "All I have to do is dream") Title: Re: Jan & Dean - Command Performances Post by: MBE on January 12, 2009, 04:36:33 AM Rocker I have read Stephen Mcparlands books on Jan and Dean (very good though a little off topic sometimes) and the music was done live for this album and the vocals in the studio. I think this was done to give the sound more balance.

But well, maybe I'm wrong with that... Title: Re: Jan & Dean - Command Performances Post by: Mark A. Moore on January 15, 2009, 07:18:16 PM Command Performance does, however, illustrate Jan & Dean's approach to live concerts . . . Orchestrations with full brass and woodwind arrangements (just like the records) . . . but no attempt to re-create the depth of vocal harmonies from the original studio versions.
