I ran across this 1971 LP today that I was not previously aware of.  All of the tracks have credited vocals  and there are several rock musicians on the record: Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, Alan Jardine, Mike Love,  Jesse Edwin Davis,  Dave Mason, John Cipollina, and Billy Cowsill.  The Wilsons and Alan are on one track only "All Life is One" while Mike sings on that and a song which he co-wrote with Lloyd called "How Sweet".  Anyone heard this?  Is it rockish or jazz?  How would you rate it?       
 

All life is one has classic Beach Boys harmony with peak form Brian prominent. Very nice.

yeah i have another album by Lloyd called Waves that has a track, "TM Song", with Mike Love, Carl Wilson, Al Jardine, and Billy Hinsche on vocals. its been awhile since i have listened to it but i remember the album being fairly enjoyable

In the early 70-s a lot of jazz musicians entered the world of rock, hence jazzrock came alive. Charles Lloyd, he plays saxophone/flute, was such a musician. Lloyd's music was called a jazz-psychedelic cross over. In those days he was found regularly on stage at the Fillmore with bands like Quicksilver Messenger Service and The Grateful Dead. In the world of jazz he's recognized as one of jazz's great performers. His band even played the Fillmore West.
Before he formed his own band, he played with Cannonball Adderley (1964-65). He sort of quit playing in a band in 1969 and became a teacher of transcendental meditation. That's the link to the Beach Boys and especially Mike Love. Because of this friendship Charles Lloyd played on several tracks on Beach Boys albums. He also played with Mike Love in their band Celebration.
In 1972 there was another Charles Lloyd album, called Waves with the song TM which has Alan, Carl, Mike and Billy. Both albums are hard to find...

He was in the touring band New Years 76/77 when I saw them but this LP was much earlier.

Yeah, but I think he started recording with the Boys in '71.

Pretty sure about that, he played on the studio-version of Feel Flows as well.

Does anyone know if Charles Lloyd played on "Beaks of Eagles"?

I have both of the Charles Lloyd albums in mention, and there is a definite Big Sur vibe to them. You can put on "Friends," "Sunflower," "Surf's Up" and "Holland," and they will glide nicely around those Charles Lloyd albums. Take out an anthology of Robinson Jeffers poems... if you wanna listen to "Cabinessence," that's cool too, man.

I read somewhere he was on Holland too, so that must be Charles Lloyd on Beaks Of Eagles.

According to his own website, he's on one track on Holland. Doesn't say which one, though. Given that he's also an accomplished flautist, I'd say "California Saga" is a good bet.
