Title: Brian Wilson tour programme 2005 ?? Post by: smile-holland on May 28, 2008, 12:59:47 PM Anyone ever seen this tourbook? It seems like it's a special edition of the 2005 programme. Never saw it with this cover before.

Post by: brianc on May 28, 2008, 01:30:55 PM I feel a little stupid saying this, but I put that tourbook together with Mark London, and have never myself seen a hardbound copy. Melinda said they were going to make them, but then I didn't hear anything about it. As far as I knew, only the softbound version came out on that tour.
It's a very nice tourbook, if I might say so myself. It features a picture from every year of Brian's life, 1961-2004, and a quote from each year as well. The picture part was difficult, especially finding shots not commonly seen. But the quote part was nearly impossible. It took me three months to find the final four quotes. There were some odd years where I was getting cassettes from people that hung out with Brian at his house and taped the conversation. Finding anything usable... whew. Mark designed the whole thing, and I wrote the opening essay and did the phot/quote research. The essay was about the 1961-62 environment of L.A. that Wilson emerged from. Now I must go about how I can get one of those myself... Title: Re: Brian Wilson tour programme 2005 ?? Post by: smile-holland on May 28, 2008, 01:47:36 PM Aha, your THAT Brian C ! I love this tourprogramme as well. I like the year-by-year pictures very much. You've done a great job on that!
Now I must go about how I can get one of those myself... ...well, the openingbid is $100.... ;D Title: Re: Brian Wilson tour programme 2005 ?? Post by: brianc on May 28, 2008, 01:50:37 PM Thanks for the compliments.
If I can find no other route to get myself one, then, well... Title: Re: Brian Wilson tour programme 2005 ?? Post by: Pretty Funky on May 28, 2008, 04:01:12 PM You were involved in the production of the regular program but not given one of these special issues?
That blows IMO! Title: Re: Brian Wilson tour programme 2005 ?? Post by: brianc on May 28, 2008, 04:10:56 PM As Seymour from "Ghost World" said: "I have to admit that things are really starting to look up for me since my life turned to merda."
Just kidding. Alas, yes, I wrote and researched the program. My only solace is that Mark London himself didn't get a hardbound copy either... I just asked him. But I don't know if they cut my writing from the hardbound or what. The person who put it up on eBay suggested that David Leaf was at the helm, so maybe they replaced the essay that I had in the softbound version. Without seeing an actual copy, I can't say. Either way, I'm not going to get all bitter here. Title: Re: Brian Wilson tour programme 2005 ?? Title: Re: Brian Wilson tour programme 2005 ?? Post by: Surfer Joe on May 29, 2008, 02:20:43 PM Brian, haven't seen the book, but your service to mankind is much appreciated. I have a great deal of respect for putting that kind of passion, thought, and care into something that might not have gotten it otherwise. That should be everybody on earth's job description.
It's also the spirit of Brian Wilson. Title: Re: Brian Wilson tour programme 2005 ?? Post by: Surfer Joe on May 29, 2008, 02:22:29 PM PS. - "programme"- you Brits sure spell stuff funny.
Title: Re: Brian Wilson tour programme 2005 ?? Post by: brianc on May 29, 2008, 02:52:54 PM Hahahaha! Thanks, Joe. Not sure I've made much contribution to mankind thus far, nor to the Beach Boys world. I only remember it being a lot of fun to do, despite any grumbling about it being "hard work." Mark and I had a ball working on it, and he remains a dear friend to this day.
