Title: Classic Rock. Post by: the captain on April 30, 2008, 02:57:14 PM Classic rock. I mostly don't like it. Now, when I say classic rock, I don't mean any rock that's classic. I mean the stereotypical classic rock, which is guitar-oriented, often pretty damn macho stuff. Post-hippie, pre-punk. Maybe kinda countryish vibe in there, maybe a city-blue-jeans-and-leather vibe. Too many dumb innuendoes for its own good.
There you have it, my great introduction to this thread. Now we can discuss "classic rock" bands (not "classic" rock bands) to our heart's contents. Title: Re: Classic Rock. Post by: Daniel S. on April 30, 2008, 11:32:14 PM Does this mean you don't like Led Zeppelin or AC/DC? :'(

My only problem with classic rock is actually classic rock radio. It tends to play the same handful of songs from teh same bands over and over and over and over again. I mean, it pretty much hasn't changed for decades. You can get sick of it. There's something heavy and weary and a bit depressing about a lot of seventies guitar-heavy pre-punk bands(which is what I guess is meant by "Classic Rock"), from the Eagles to Fleetwood Mac to Lynard Skynard. But thosewere the times, and that was how the wind was blowing and in truth sometimes I feel like that--weary, heavy, a bit depressing. I do find classic rock staples like Pink Floyd a bit tiresome--on the other hand, sometimes I really like them. Classic rock--the music, the vibe and all is not my favorite music but sometimes it hits the spot. It's sort of like a favorite dive bar that you go into once in a blue moon for something different. But even Zeppelin, I don't listen to very often anymore--not since I was about 19 or 20. It's still great, but I can't get into it the way I could in those days very often. AC/DC, no. Never. Very against. They bore the sh*t out of me, the musical version of comedy that isn't funny. |
