Brian Wilson announces tour
April 15, 2008 5:58 p.m. by Jim Allen

Sunshine-pop godhead Brian Wilson will be touring this spring and summer on what's apparently being promoted as a "hits tour" that, in the words of Wilson's camp, "will please everyone in the room." We're not sure if that description is intended to reassure wary boomers that they won't have to contend with any epic, orchestral-pop song suites, or to keep seekers of said suites from demanding their money back when they get "Little Deuce Coupe" instead of "Smile."

But at least Wilson has given "Smile" some stage time over the last few years. Whatever else happens or doesn't happen on this tour, it looks like we damn sure won't be hearing any more of his new son-of-Smile opus "Lucky Old Sun," which he aired in the UK awhile back and is said to be recording for a new album.

FYI for Brian's Big Apple contingent: Both of Wilson's New York dates are pricy benefits, so if you're wallet's tight, you may have to either hightail it to New Hampshire or hit the highlights on YouTube.

05/08 - New York, NY, Carnegie Hall Rainforest Benefit
06/28 - London, UK Kenwood
06/29 - Ipswich, UK Ipswich Regent Theatre
07/01 - London, UK Royal Albert Hall
07/08 - Niagra Fallsview Casino Avalon Ballroom, Niagra Falls, ON

07/11 - New York, NY Hammerstein Ballroom

07/12 - Highmount, NY, Belleayre Mountain Ski Center, Highmount, NY

07/13 - Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, Hampton Beach, NH

09/12 - Los Angeles, CA Hollywood Bowl
09/13 - Los Angeles, CA Hollywood Bowl
09/14 - Los Angeles, CA Hollywood Bowl

Hammerstein's cheapest tickets are $100? Am I reading the Web site right?

Yeah, he's Brian Wilson and everything, but I'm not John D. Rockefeller.

I've heard certain members will be missing like Darian. Hopefully we can get a confirmation on this from someone?

Oops, scratch what I posted about Hammerstein ticket prices. It's a benefit.

Why not do a 'Hits and Misses' tour instead? Set 2 of which contains all the Beach Boys' Greatest Hits, while the first set contains all the singles that never made it to the top, like Break Away, You Need a Mess of Help, Friends, Honkin', Ten Little Indians, Caroline No...

Why I'd rather see Mike's chock-full-o'-rarities-that-practically-no-one-ever-cared-about-show...[huff]... than Brian's traveling-oldies-that-practically-everyone-always-loved-jukebox-show...blah....blah....blah....[puff] >:(

Carnegie and Hammerstein are too pricey for me. Looks like I'll have to sit this tour out  :(

And to think a few short years ago it was Brians rarities and Mikes traveling oldies.

Doesn't Brians management (picture 'dumbass' smiley here) listen or read what his audience want?

Don't worry....I have just answered my own question! :thud

I was really hoping for a "Friends" tour - all 20 minutes of it, and that's it.

I would pay mucho dinero for that, actually.

I'd travel anywhere to see that! Don't forget to bring in Al Jardine for his lead vocal in Be Here In The Morning, while Mike Love will come in a little bit later, of course as a special guest doing the sax solo in Transcendental Meditation.

i reader see the Mike & Bruce England show ( rarities & jukebox hits) than a Brian jukebox hits show. Just my 2 cents  8)

Mike and Bruce's show is still majority oldies. And doesn't Brian usually do more hits during his summer shows, anyway? Though it would be nice if he did That Lucky Old Sun in the States.

Well as long as Brian's "greatest hits" include "Walkin' the line" "Rio grande" "Heroes & Villains" (smile version) "Marcella" plus "I'd love just once to see you" "She knows me too well" as on the last tour I don't know what's everybody's problem. I often have the feeling that people don't take "Add some music" as a rarity, because Brian plays it quite regularly. If Mike&Bruce would do it, it would be described as obscure. So we probably have to differ between a "Brian rarity" and a "Beach Boys rarity".

The best rarity Brian could do-in my opinion-would work best as an encore:

Turn off all of the lights in the place, and do "Mount Vernon and Fairway." Let Brian be the Pied Piper.
